Europe powers up electric car battery drive

Europe now has projects to build 38 gigafactories with a combined annual output of 1,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) and an estimated cost of €40 billion ($48 billion), according to a June report by Transport & Environment, a non-government organisation.

This annual supply could be reached by 2029-2030 and would be the equivalent to the production of 16.7 million battery electric vehicles, a T&E spokesman told AFP

In a nutshell: It's a bogus story. Good way to teach us how journalism works nowadays, though.

End of EU duty exemption will hit parcel flows and give shoppers 'sticker shock'

The €22 limit will be scrapped under a wave of protest from EU-based merchants, over a flood of cheap online purchases from China putting them at a competitive disadvantage, and from postal agencies that were receiving paltry compensation for their delivery costs based on the old terminal dues formula.

In addition, there have been concerns over violations of EU regulations. Last year the Danish Chamber of Commerce ordered 54 products from China – mainly toys and electronics – from merchants selling on Amazon, AliExpress and Wish. Of the 50 that arrived, 46 broke EU safety rules and, in 16 cases, the value had been misdeclared to avoid import sales taxes.

We basically screw ourselves through all the enablers offering cheap stuff in return.

But hey you also only have a cheap job then.

The wealth of Germany for example hasn't increased significantly since 20 years. In some areas there are huge profits but complete other industries disappeared in return.

We do not even have enough building materials anymore because of the cheap cheap trap.

It is a boomerang do not believe it, it leads to absolute dependency. And makes the selected enablers rich.

Its a one way business mostly.

EU finally slapped fines on Chinese packages because they BS the cost of the item all the time to avoid tax. Things have turned around but only when its too late.

The blatant blind eye that they all had prior puts them still in the same league as that enabler spy... cannot wash that stain off.

The chinese covid lies, the crime of the century in all honesty.

I agree with that, people like Merkel and some industries are a mole in the garden.

They can not think strategically. And create dangers in the future.

To be clear if China was an actual market driven economy I would have no problem because then other factors would be decisive.

But right now it is all arranged by the CCP in the shadows.

Thus excertion and such take place. I think it is very dangerous and unpredictable game wecare playing with the CCP.

We prop them up and lose manufacturing capabilities thus making our societies susceptible to CCP extortion.

Just take a look what happened to DiDi.

The CCP kraken controls all and everything. Thus I don't get how Western politicians continue this path. All not acting in the CCPs interst are going to lose. Also the Chinese themselves.

This regime must be contained and not propped Up.

Turkey seems to be able to spend money on a never ending quest for military equipment but don't seem to be able to spend any of that on firefighting equipment (the word is priorities)

My feeling let them burn, it's not like they are going to come and help Poland anytime soon
