On the macro economic in NZ.
Port agents are struggling with low flows. Down 25% for imports and also low exports. Building consents down 25% and retail shops closing at a fast rate.
Army surplus stores. Only one street based one remains. An interesting example as usually they are doing ok in bad times with low cost items for low economic times but they have been beaten out by lower priced chinese copies on chinese websites able to deliver at less or similar cost as a NZ based seller delivering in NZ.
Due to the passed use by date that allows chinese postage to be subsidized as they are still developing. For the second year in a row a chinese EV was voted car of the year.

Former Gisborne Mayor Meng Foon has removed an illegal seawall he had built at a campground he owns after being told by the local council he needed resource consent.

Foon was Gisborne mayor for 18 years from 2001 to 2019, and the Race Relations Commissioner from 2019 until June last year, when he resigned after failing to disclose a conflict of interest.

The conflict arose over Foon’s company M Y Gold Limited, which had received government payments, including more than $2 million for accommodation, including emergency housing at the Tatapouri Bay Campground.
Same council forgot to warn people they were about to be killed by a flood.
Actually the wall is quite well enginereed. But they have to remove it..the laws and all that stuff.

To members of the Justice Committee,

This submission is in support of the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill.

I believe every New Zealander deserves the same fundamental respect and dignity – including equal political rights.

I believe the text of Te Tiriti should honoured, including Article 3, which promised the same rights and duties for all New Zealanders.

The “partnership” interpretation of the Treaty advanced by the Waitangi Tribunal and the courts has led to divisive policies including co-governance and public services targeted on race, not need.

It is clear the interpretation of the Treaty principles has sweeping implications for the rights of all New Zealanders, and I believe it is time for New Zealanders to finally define the principles in law using a democratic process.

I support the Bill’s proposed principles, and I believe New Zealanders should have the chance to vote on these principles at a referendum.

Yours sincerely,
