Terror News about terrorism

Ok thanks, but business usually wins, so why now, why shoot a few people and die....assuming this is France related?

<adjusting my tin-hat>
They were looking for an archduke, symbolically speaking about Franz related.

Disclaimer: zis is KAOS, we don't make sense here!

A couple of days ago – also in Vienna – a mob of Muslim youths ransacked a church. Perhaps there is a connection. Like I said, they feel entitled to vent their precious little anger.
Noted, but I’m not feeling it.

Did someone switch them on? 5-7 men, ak47’s, and the will to die, it’s not happening every day, so why now, why Vienna?

Maybe en route to France, and the lockdown stopped them?

Time will tell, but whoever financed and equipped this better be very sure they left no trace.

I have a feeling ‘earthquakes’ will be happening more regularly across the ME or wherever for the next few weeks.......

Austrian authorities have confirmed that at least fifty gunshots were fired and stabbing attacks occured at six different locations throught downtown Vienna. The perpetrators deliberately targeted bar patrons. 17 people have been hurt, of which two have died from their injuries. One attacker was killed by police officers, another is still believed to be at large. The attacker they killed was wearing a fake explosive belt.

Europol has raised the European terror alarm level to red, indicating further attacks in one or numerous member states are likely.

Regarding @morris' earlier point about the role of the media, there seriously is a headline in German tabloid 'Bild' that reads "The projectiles were causing sparks!"

For the love of Christ.

Speaking of religion, how useless is this current pope who dares not lose a word about the fact that in 21st century Europe Christians are martyred?

I'd told you Benedict XVI would be missed.

According to the Austrian home secretary the attack has an islamist background. Karl Nehammer also said that the perpetrator killed by the police was an IS sympathiser. Three innocent bystanders as well as the attacker were killed, it is still not clear if there were more than one terrorists.
Sad day for Vienna.

They may very well be some experienced jihadists. I watched it on the breaking news yesterday evening. Just as a reminder many European governments wanted to take back their own 'citizens' who fought the jihad.

1000 officers were deployed in Vienna last night. Military special forces guarded important objects. Mayn police officers on leave reported back immediately while teh attacks were on going.

ATLAS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATLAS_Network offered its help and Special Police Forces from Germany and Hungary are ready for deployment to Austria.

Police units from neighbouring Niederösterreich and Burgenland were already sent to Vienna yesterday evening. More forces to arrive today.

The schools remain closed today in Vienna.

The appartment of one of the terrorists was raided yesterday, he is an IS sympathisant. his identity is not revealed yet.

The first Terrorist was killed 9 minutes after the attack. It is suspected that there could be a maximum of 4 Terrorists in total all armed with rifles.

But it could also be just a single terrorist act.

Chancellor Kurz to adress the public today at 11:30

Another woman that was injured by the attacker has passed away. Oh, and do not worry, Mrs. Merkel has said that "islamist terrorism is our common enemy".....everything will be ok!!!!

@thanamestolga was right.

The police killed one perpetrator who turned to be a 20-year Albanian born in Vienna. The guy was an ISIS-lover.

Nothing to do with Turkey as for now.

Very odd.

The fact that he is an Albanian both introduces an ISIS pattern in Europe that they use elsewhere, while at the same time breaks a pattern they often use in Europe.

Typically ISIS terrorist attacks outside of Europe will be done by a member with some connection to the region. I.E. a very specific attack on Iraqi's will be done by an Iraqi, a very specific attack on Kurds will be done by a Kurdish member, a specific attack on Turkey would be done by a Turkish, or Kazakh, or Turkmen member.

However up until now ISIS had been using Arabs with European passports to commit their terror attacks within Europe. By using an Albanian they might not be using a white Christian from Vienna but they are using a person from the continent nonetheless.

This might be a pattern to look out for possible future ISIS attacks in Europe, and maybe an emphasis on non Arabic/Chechen terrorists could be more useful to identify suspects.

Just a thought.

Νot surprised about the Albanian background, remember what happened to Fort Dix in 2007 with the Duka brothers and others.

What i remember was that the US media establishment did not report the origin of the attackers, just reporting that they were from ex Yugoslavia. Finally a woman who was a neighbor of the Duka brothers did a blog post that they were Albanians from Fyrom.

There is a strong radicalized element of Albanians who have an affiliation to Isis like the late Lavdrim Muhaxheri who beheaded Syrian soldiers in 2013-14 and said this punishment is Quran aprroved and this is what the UCK did to Serbs in Kosovo 1999.

Notably this character was Nato related:

It can´t be generalized like that. Just as an example google the German Islamist Philip Bergner who blew himself up in Iraq in 2014 killing 20 people.

And to bring to memory Albanians are well represented at least in Germany the Kosovo Albanian Arid Uka killed two US soldiers at the Frankfurt Airport.

In 2017 another Albanian was arrested in Austria for plotting a bomb attack.

In other news the Terrorist tried to travel to Syria in July he was known by the authorities but was not considered capable of committing an attack.

You're not surprised because of a terror attack that is unrelated from 13 years ago?

ISIS related Albanians number at around 500-1000 give or take. This is very little considering most Western European countries have more citizens fighting for ISIS in the Middle East by double or triple.

In contrast Albania and Albanians have major contributions to counter terrorism (especially more than the state of Greece) through their various deployments on NATO missions including combat personnel to fight ISIS. So please don't attempt to use your sticky olive oil fingers (especially because of some petty regional difference) to type away at a group of people who have major contributions to resolving a terror issue that they played very little part in the creation of. Greece has not done anything remotely close.
