Leading politicians and mayors from Italy have placed a giant advertisement in Germany's largest daily newspaper (today's upcoming issue of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), demanding the German government cease its opposition towards so called Eurobonds (i.e. the communitisation of debts in the Eurozone). Rome, Paris and Madrid want the other countries of the monetary union to issue common bonds in a bid to cushion the blow of the current crisis.
Concluding that "memory ought to help Germany to make the right decision", the advertisement brings up the London Agreement of 1953 in which several countries, including Italy, agreed to dispense with their reparation claims against Germany.
The ad – which also criticises the like-wise opposing countries Austria, Finland and Netherlands as being "selfish" –, comes a day after a three-minute rant released by popular Italian comedian Tullio Solenghi. In the expletive-filled video which has garnered hundreds of thousands of views, Solenghi accuses the Germans of denying Italy help for racial reasons.
I guess that means we can begin to repatriate those 73 Italians who're being treated in ICUs all over Germany right now?

Well, Italy's an interesting case… You can actually buy portraits, mugs and other souvenirs with Mussolini's likeness down there, and yet Italians will morph into fierce anti-fascists whenever it suits them…
Just kidding. In all fairness, it's more like some Italian politicians are getting desperate to jump on a long-sought opportunity. Unfortunately, the virus hasn't put an end to profiteering just yet. And it's certainly not like we don't see callous people like that in Germany; and I trust there'll be plenty of Filipino politicians as well who'll know how to use the crisis to their personal advantage.

Something similar happened in Poland a few days ago. The government changed the law overnight, violating the constitution, and allowed postal voting:Meanwhile, the Hungarian parliament de-facto abolished itself for the time being. Issue is that in this time wgen people are suffering ans dying, nobody understand why the eurobond system is refused by an handle of countries, always the same (Germany, Austria, Netherland and a fourth one)
It is not only PIIGs asking for this mechanism of relief, Belgium and Ireland are OK for example.
So yes denying them hurt Germany image. Of course some politician will play that token. But it is worst than that, it raises anger against Germany and feed europhobic moves

Today in my home city lockdown rules became in force.
I work from home and at beginning of every hour hear damn loud civil defense sirens and repetitive message like "To prevent spreading infection, stay at home" over the city. A bit scary i would say, like in past centuries people fire cannon or ring the bell in the epidemic towns.
Situation in the city (3rd lagest city in Russia) is OK. 10 cases registered, all of them arrived from abroad and were in self-isolation before tested.

This guy is very popular in Russia. Perhaps deservingly so. Unfortunately, one can never tell with Russian propaganda. However, he checks all the right boxes, his father was also a physician, he is an upstanding citizen (one wife, one child), and carried himself exceptionally so far. Plus he looks like a fairy tale bogatyr (super strength warrior from fairy tales).

Its just disgusting from this idiotic regime. I just don't have to post their massive whining supported by local idiots regarding travel restrictions.
Regarding these facts I don't trust them either with their numbers.
This doesn't take away the mismanagement (greed and shortsightedness) of local govs worldwide and not recognizing the severity and acting accordingly.
I also put much blame on some experts with their downplaying in calm voices until too late. And the undiscerning politicos naturally.
The blame game serves nobody I agree, I just wanted to show the true face of this regime manipulating facts and deceiving its population to save face.
Must be horrible to be in China right now as a (western) foreigner, the article I mentioned above also spoke of massive repercussions towards foreigners fostered by the gov. and not just some isolated idiots like over here.
A fun fact: the neigbours of my parents well into their 70s just returned a few weeks ago from China, visiting their daughter.

Today (1 april) report from Russia is a little bit optimistic, we had a minor decline in new cases and new deaths numbers.
2777 total cases (440 new), 25 dead (7 new), 190 recovered (69 new).
Yesterday director of Moscow hospital where most of covid patients treated was tested positively. Putin visited this hospital week ago. Today new regulation was issued and every medics who worked with covid patients must be tested weekly even if they have not any symptoms.

Not saying America's handling of the crisis has been the best, especially when compared to some Asian countries (Korea and Taiwan for instance), but far from being the worse (response wise, consequences wise, etc...).
Also, haven't seen that kind of thing ("Punny little yellows men doublew of damn commirs cockroaches.") being said anywhere... The cognitive dissonance is real.
Anyway.
