The Santa María Class frigates (F80s) will be replaced soon by the new ASW frigates of the Bonifaz Class being built at Navantia Ferrol Shipyard right now. First unit of the class, the Bonifaz (F-111), will be launch in July.

Next month is also espected the launch of the submarine Narciso Monturiol (S82) at Navantia Cartagena Shipyard.

· Note the replacement of the old and obsolete Meroka 2B for a new RWS Guardian 30 (30mm).
· Indra Crow Anti-UAS systems can be seen after the RWS.
· The old manual M2 positions on the bridge wings are replaced by RWS Guardian 2.0 (12,7mm).

Rare pic of the Onshore Center for Systems Integration (CIST) of the Spanish Navy for the F-110 Class at Rota Naval Base.

As we can see, the tower and integrated mast structure that will receive the first SPY-7 (V)2 radar and the rest of the sensors and systems to be integrated in the Bonifaz (F110) class of ASW frigates have already been installed in the building.

In a first phase, the CIST will carry out the engineering support, operational tests and systems integration trials to later serve as a research and development support facility with the purpose of keeping the equipment and systems updated and constantly improved throughout the life cycle of the Bonifaz class.

The Spanish component in the Exercise ‘Neptune Strike 25’ is made up of the Expeditionary Battle Group ‘Dédalo’ composed of the frigate Blas de Lezo (F103), the LHD Juan Carlos I (L61), the LPD Galicia (L51) and the AOR Cantabria (A15) together with a reinforced Marine Infantry Battalion and an Embarked Air Unit equipped with AV-8B+ Harrier aircraft together with SH-60B and SH-60F helicopters.

As a curious fact, Her Royal Highness Princess Leonor serves as a crew member aboard the frigate Blas de Lezo (F103) as part of her military training in the Navy.

Farewell to the grandpa!

A well-deserved rest for such an underated vessel.

Seized in an anti-drug operation in August 1982 and sold at public auction three months later, it would finally be acquired by the Spanish Navy. She was added to the Official List of Navy Ships that same year, being commisioned with the name of 'Contramaestre Casado' and assigned the pennant number A01.

Since then, she has been in service for almost 43 years, serving in logistical tasks, as a training support ship and even as a transport and mother ship for hydrographic small boats.

Its fate is currently unclear, awaiting a Ministerial decision on whether it will end up as a future target in a Sink-Ex exercise, whether it will be preserved as a museum ship, or whether it will perhaps leave port one last time for scrapping.
