To be fair, in this case the guy they were after was an armed threat. So helmets, plate carriers, and full gear was a good idea. I guess the camo pattern is a case of you go with what you have.

I have seen LEO locally running their SWAT type gear in all black or all FDE/tan.

There is already speculation concerning an Iranian sleeper cell that got in via Biden's open border policy. At this point, that sounds like a knee jerk reaction. Militant survivalist types? Too soon to tell.

Concerning police SWAT decked out in woodland camo, I'll look around for a pic of my State Patrol SWAT team. No camo for us - dark blue uniforms. Also no armored vehicles. Can't say I ever wished we had that sort of thing. Given the vast area we covered, it wouldn't have been practical.

Still no clear motive for the shooting, but it seems he had wanted to be a firefighter at some point. Revenge for being turned down? He was also living in his vehicle, so homeless. That hasn't been searched yet because firefighters pushed it down a ravine so he couldn't escape in it = not easy to access.

So... homeless and no clear ties to anyplace. If a betting pool is started, my money is on a bitter nut case.

Other passengers zerged the perp and roughed him up so good he had to be airlifted to a hospital after the fact. (Source) No motive has been established, but due to the several blunt weapons in his possession, terrorism seems possible.
