Why do I still not give a damn about this most terrifying pandemic? Why yes, because seasonal flu is still deadlier. Very much so. For heaven's sake, the RKI (one of the globe's leading authorities) estimates some 50% of the virus's carriers don't even develop conditions grave enough to be felt.

Thus far, some 2 500 deaths have been attributed to Covid19. Were we generous enough to presuppose a dark figure even ten times as high, it'd still be dwarved by the 650 000 deaths caused by the flu each season. Without the whole media rigmarole no one would give a toss. The information society is a curse as much as it is a blessing.

You are comparing apples and oranges
Seasonal flu kills 250K to 650K indeed but for not exactly the same population covered (10% of all adults, 20% of all children worlwide which make between 600 and 800 million of cases each year)
Here we have 3000 death for 80 000 cases.

Cover the same amount of popularion than the seasonal flu (which is a real possibility given the R0 of the Covid) and you will 50 to 100x more death.
That's what health authorities are afraid of.
For the rest i agree that media hysteria and people idiocy is not helping either.

But we don't, not according to the RKI at the very least. They say there have been far more cases than previously reported but the patients never presented at a hospital or doctor's on the account of their symptoms being moderate. Based on their findings, they've calculated a lethality of 0.3%: slightly below that of an ordinary flu. There's only one aspect of COVID19 that's problematic, namely that carriers of the virus may infect others long before symptoms appear.

The mortality in and around Wuhan was due to the overstressing of the public healthcare system. Dozens of people died waiting for a hospital bed.

This sounds correct but it is forgetting something. It was also the case for the spanish flu and the seasonal flu.
The lethality ratio is always calculated by confirmed cases (because by definition cases not presenting themselves to MD because of mild symptoms or asymptomatic cases cannot be numbered)
I dont believe in the 0.3%. There is simply no datas to come down to that number and it look like a "calm down" message.

I dont believe in the doom and gloom media are plastering everywhere but let's be clear. This is not aseasonal flu,this shouldnt be compared with a seasonal flu (if for one thing, lethality of both infections will ad up after all)

People are stupid so gov advices are welcome.
I mean i just had a chat with my pharmacist. They dont have surgical masks anymore and stockpiles nationwide are empty. Just because BFM said you need some (while it is useless)
