Hey guys I have a Q if I may about the Japanese Navy's' rather interesting fleet of seaplanes.......Those things are an interesting craft indeed!! Watched a couple of YouTube's about them, looks like a great mixed use rescue/maritime patrol craft!

What is the difference between the two models?? And what's with the color difference?? The orange is more suitable....... ??

JMSDF US-1A & US-2

1) There is no difference between the models. the US-1A is the orginal prototype aircraft now known as the US-2. Please read;

The MoD signed a contract for the delivery of the US-1A Kai aircraft in 2005. The prototype was integrated with partial design changes based on the evaluation by the MoD. The US-1A Kai was re-designated the US-2 STOL Search and Rescue Amphibian, and was formally inducted to a squadron in March 2007. The aircraft entered full-scale production in April 2007 and the first flight was accomplished in December 2008.

2) My military experience tells me that the colors mean that Orange usually means search and rescue. The blue is just a color scheme choice.

..and google is your friend.
