Theoretically it can be a gun with the range of a missile and not need any propellant. They do require a lot of electrical power.

So the limitations rest on the ability to produce that power instantly after each shot. I will do some digging to find out more.

Yes the rail gun is aboard a ship. But it is there for test, check and refinement. I'm very sure this is the only rail gun China has...This ship is a converted LST..= Landing Ship Tank.
