I actually think its past plays a role. Germany sitting this one out or being on the "sane" side could put it in a position where it is needed by both sides. Positioning it as a peace dealer or at least the neautral seat in the house that everyone can talk to will pay dividennds down the line. EU/NATO needs Germany as one of the key members and Russia as its mediator with enough weight to make others listen. If they can pull it off there will be opportunity for it to totally forget or burn the shadow of its past.

This is going against the media narrative of a united front and thats why some tabloids and members are foaming at the mouth against what Germany is doing.

What the Brits are doing though valiant is of not much help. IF, big if, the Russians were to make a move, all those missiles dumped will just end up in the black market and wont make the Russians second guess their actions. Until NATO or the WEST puts boots on the ground, its not a deterrence. Oh by boots I mean, actual numbers, numbers that cant be picked up in a matter of hours by a couple of C17s, meaning they will have to fight.

The western forces, left people hang out to dry in Syria, Afghanistan... I'm guessing someone is betting they would do the same here.

REDUTs are also being move to Belarus.

The P-260T Redut-2US is a long-range army-level communications system that is not used at the battalion or brigade level, it is indicative of the scale of the deployment.

The US will provide its answers to Russia until 30 January.
NATO will follow at the beginning of February.
Afterwards we will see another meeting.

Also: Exercise "Allied resolve" in Belarus starts on 10 February. Though it is clear now that one of the main concentration points for Russian troops arriving in Belarus is the Rechitsa-Kalinkovichi-Mozyr-Yelsk triangle in the southeast near the Ukrainian border, despite the fact that the drills are to take place in the west and northwest.

In addition to the BTGs and S-400 battalions and possibly more than 10 BTGs from the Far East and an army from Siberia, the Su-35S squadron headed to Belarus is also coming from the Eastern Military District. Looks like one of the 2 Su-35S squadrons from the 23rd Fighter Aviation Regiment based in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

Not only are we seeing a huge buildup of Russian forces near Ukraine, we're probably going to see the strongest Russian military presence in Europe since the early 1990s.

What were the tailwinds just above Munich? - so entering German airspace from the French Border parallel to Munich and exiting into Austria airspace in the east

There is potentially much wrong with the German response to this issue, but that's politics and I'm not interested in that.

WRT to the dip clearances and routing you are looking for something that isn't there and being manipulated by the media narrative in the UK. Greater fuel burn on the way there due to weight made a more northernly route favourable, But believe what you want.

It looks like an indication that the Russians are expecting the US/EU to not fight and leave the Ukraine on its own. If it is transferring forces to the area that are from the Far East, they are comfortable that no new fronts will open up

I have no idea what you're talking about other than you likely read something in a tabloid that was utter tripe to begin with.
That's my official statement.
@BCNTM I was pretty drunk when I wrote this last night and it's completely unnecessarily rude. You have my genuine apologies.

The EU realistically can't do anything apart from sending some gear toward Ukraine.

It would be interesting to put things into perspective with what took place during the Spring of 2021 (from 87.000, by 2014-2016, to 120.000 by mid-April).

When Trump put sanctions on the Nordestream pipeline ,then Biden lifts ,,, them . Putin supplies Europe via Germany .. I hardly doubt Anyone in NATO IS going to do anything When Russia is supplying them with MUCH NEEDED Gas ..

It would be pot kettle black ... .and All the build up is merely over the talk of Ukraine being asked to Join NATO . . And he doesn't want to lose that naval base on the black sea

No worries @Gaz - I also apologize to you if my replies were ingenuous - it's a discussion forum, so no harm done - I actually thought it was an excellent reply:)

I thought it wasn’t really out of line, and have been drunk plenty of times before around here. Have made multiple rude posts, just as I have taken many too.

I’d genuinely like to thank everyone here for keeping the topic on track though. It’s nice to be listened to, for a change.

Facts, discussion about the topic and we’re good to go.

Biden should probably not have "summoned" a new coalition leader in that fashion.

Especially when, a few days ago, Macron called for a "EU-collective-security" not involving the US during his speech to the European Parliament.

Furthermore when the EU was not involved in direct talks between the US and Moscow last week.

Does Germany lose the opportunity to talk sense to US, or it doesn't want to be on the back foot in discussions rendering them meaningless?
Unfortunately, US being US, it will go to more receptive countries further east to initiate spoiler moves against any German progress with Russia.

What sense exactly.

Putin the statesman eh. Few pages back those pr pics of him cuddling with puppy present from Nato aligned Bulgaria. All this just to make a statement. What happened to the good old shirtless days on the tundra. Now he just looks like a mindless bully.

Having not observed Russian agreement to respect borders Putin seems to think that aggression has not had an effect on the climate now as he has been interpreted as a dictator in the press and now very ironically of the type in the previous century that costed Russia millions of lives.
