Indian Coast Guard Hovercrafts from Haldia rescued approximate 175 pilgrims from a grounded ferry off Namkhana, Kakdwip today. Pilgrims were returning from GangaSagar after a holy dip on Makar Sankranti when the ferry ran aground due to very poor visibility. Rescue is in progress.

Indian Coast Guard Ship Rani Abbakka during patrol in Palk Bay rescued a Giant Olive Ridley Turtle entangled in a ghost net. The rescued turtle was released to the sea. Olive Ridley Turtles are endangered species listed in Schedule- I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
