Also, from what I've read, she's also under investigation for nepotism and she royally screwed over the Bundeswehr. I'm getting subversive vibes from her.
Everything's decided by what is called the community method . Instead of an open process everything is decided behind closed doors . Macron wants economic reform in France so made a play for the ECB chair which lagarde got . In return Germany gets the EU presidency to balance things out which in this case is der leyen . That's how it works though I would say Germany has been left somewhat isolated this time round , apart from der leyen all the other top posts have gone to French orientated candidates . Expect more intergration over the coming years and moves to absorb the Balkans into the ever increasing EU empire .

The ambassador did his job and gave the British Government his opinion on the US Government. We'd all be nuts to think that the US Ambassador to the UK isn't right now describing the British Government as a shambles based on Brexit and the leadership contest. The only real difference is that the President is notoriously thinskinned and has taken personal offence at it.
