so...is brexit really going to happen?

It might well do but my opinion is if it was going to happen it would have by now . Sure Boris is in charge , theoretically anyway but I'm expecting 6 months of lip service then delay . A GE could break the deadlock either way but I don't see an early one been called with Jeremy lurking so that ll be 2022 when that's called .

When a German politician is wholeheartedly supported by the Polish national socialist government, it's a big achievement.

a quickfire general election will end the UK .. the SNP tend to use it as a trap to get out the UK ie campaign on getting a simple majority of Scottish mps 30+ then leaving the UK polls have SNP winning anything from 53 to all 59 seats, the obsession with Brexit in England will be the UK's undoing

Sure the SNP will benefit from the current political discourse . I'd expect most of the Tory gains in Scotland will be lost and gains for SNP / liberal . What can be done with those extra MPs is probably very little but it will still be a good boost for the party .

Umm....aren't people pissed off because she wasn't even on the ballot?

Technically speaking, no one was on the ballot for this position. Whilst I wholeheartedly agree that the European Union needs to become more democratic in its processes, the fact remains that the European Parliament unilaterally decided to pretend the candidate for the position of speaker of the biggest fraction would become the President of the Commission. It's not what the law says. And everyone pissed now could've learnt this by means of two mouse clicks.

Also, from what I've read, she's also under investigation for nepotism

A general and advisor of von der Leyen is. She's under investigation kind of the same way Donald Trump is, i.e. because of political hyperbole and vitriol no one can really tell if there's any substance to it.

and she royally screwed over the Bundeswehr.

She and every defence secretary since 1990, except maybe one. Von der Leyen is just the last chapter in a long and sorry tale, and whilst I disagree with almost every decision of hers, I can't help but wonder if one defence secretary could've even had undone twenty years of mismanagement. Probably not.

I see that Labour want a new brexit referendumk if there is a new PM ..

Shower of treasonous .. scum .. they all need rounded up and duely shot ...

Maybe they ought to round up and shoot the likes of you. Yay, calls for murder. Just what the political climate needs.

My God, what a f***ing weirdo you are. And I see that in all those years I've known you, you still haven't learnt to hit the puncutation mark just once.

When a German politician is wholeheartedly supported by the Polish national socialist government, it's a big achievement.

That might be just for show. The fact is that Ursula von der Leyen is quite a chameleon and more than capable of making people like her. She's fluent in five languages, and her politics change by the month. It might actually have something to do with the fact that as a child (her father was a governor and on the receiving end of death threats from a dangerous leftist terrorist group), she had to hide under false names in many cities.

How long before the UK or EU press goes CNN on these new elected leaders?

Local take on the Mueller report boiled down to the only reason Trump wasn't impeachable.... because of executive privilege.

Wow. That's an incredible thing to report. Even with only watching small portions of the testimony yesterday, it was an utter and unmitigated disaster for the democrats and deep state operatives. But...the corrupt media will report what they will report. They have their marching orders, you know!

Even CNN stopped reporting on it. Was swapping between Fox and CNN . CNN decided to follow what Boris was doing while Hannity though-roughly destroyed CNNs "integrity".

SNP are dead in the water - failed to get independence - failed to provide basic services

Cons will sweep Scotland apart from the cities

Yep , if you ever want no news see a politician .

Reminds me of the way my English work colleagues changed another guy’s last name (A. Hunt) on the board:

the SNP are far from finished the tories on the other hand they are finished them and Labour polls have both on zero seats and Lib dems 6 - 0 seats the last poll had them on 3 the UK is finished and Johnson will be the last PM of the UK Scotland is a well oiled machine compared to the rest of the UK paralysed by Brexit

No, it's not the case. The initial candidate was Timmermans and national socialists planned to do everything and more to get him rejected. Timmy tried to restore the rule of law in Poland and had a lot of arguments with national socialists in the past, so the latter cannot stand him. They blocked him and started broadcasting a propagandist BS on TV that they blocked him "for attacking Poland". The parliamentary opposition, that is said to be pro-EU, pointed out that national socialists did not propose any alternative candidate, but the latter stated they don't care as long as Timmy is out. When Uschi was proposed by Merkel, the opposition also pointed out that Germany and France would have too many high-ranking EU officials, while the A8/V4 countries would have almost none. Again, national socialists responded they don't care as long as Timmy is out.

Lots of EU commission discussions for a Brexit thread...

My two cents: you Brits can keep Majid.

Seriously, it's about time they leave and this endless debate finally leaves the agenda. If they're desperate to rekindle the tensions in Northern Ireland or the Scottish independence campaign, more power to them. If they don't want to pay their commitments, let them. The money they owe is mostly due to go to British farmers and the pensions' of British nationals working for EU institutions. Luckily they didn't realize that yet.

I wish I could do that. Just cancel my credit agreement and pretend that from now on we're even. ?

On an unrelated note, I think its hilarious how enthusiastically Johnson was welcomed into office by Trump. Johnson's said he wants to make the UK the "greatest country" on earth. I'm surprised Trump didn't sue him for copyright infringement.
