Interesting stuff mate, i will be very glad to read about these, didnt even know we sent them any ?

It is very hard to find details of the units of Spitfires in Russia, However, there is a lot of information on the Hurricanes that were stationed there.

I do know that 3 PR Spitfires were stationed in Russia in the early 1940's, their job was to keep an eye of the German fleet, they were manned by RAF air and ground crews, these aircraft were lated handed over to the Russian Air Force.

In total the Russians received the following aircraft:

P-39 Airacobra single-engine fighters - 4719
P-40 fighters - 2397
P-47 fighters - 195
Hurricane single-engine fighters - 2952
Spitfire single-engine fighters - 1331
A-20 twin-engine light attack bombers - 2908
B-25 twin-engine medium bombers - 862

Not Aberdeen but Abadan, Iran in 1943. It´s where the Spits had been painted over and handed over to VVS (voyenno-vozdushnyye sily - Soviet air force). The planes were part of the Lend-Lease. First of them, I think, arrived during Fall of 1942 in Murmansk. I wonder what happened with them after WW2 since I don´t know about any surviving Spitfires in Russia (I know about a Hawker Hurricane in Vadim Zadorozhny Technical Museum).

Great thread, by the way :)
