Upgraded BrahMos missile
The upgraded BrahMos universal cruise missile will be capable of striking targets at a range of over 500 km, BrahMos Company Russian Co-Director Alexander Maksichev told TASS at the St. Petersburg International Maritime Defense Show on Thursday.

"We already fired [BrahMos missiles] to a range of 400 km. Very soon, we will confirm that we can fire to a range of 500 km. This will be a sea-, ground- or air-launched version. Even 500 km plus," Maksichev said.

Head of the BrahMos Aerospace Russian-Indian Joint Venture Sudhir Kumar Mishra earlier told The Economic Times that the upgraded missile version with an extended range of up to 500 km was ready.

The commanding officer of the rocket and artillery armament service of Russia's Central Military District, Lieutenant Colonel Mikhail Kuzin, said on 8 July that the combined arms and reconnaissance units within his district have received "6,000 AK-74M assault rifles with the Obves upgrade kits".
Lt Col Kuzin said that "the universal modernisation kit for the Kalashnikov assault rifles allows for the increase in the weapons effectiveness by one and a half times at 300 metres based on the 'destruction rate' criteria, at either day or night time and in different climates".
He said the upgraded assault rifles issued to the reconnaissance units will be supplied with "a universal accessory for suppressed fire".
The Obves upgrade kits are officially designated as the KM-AK, which stands for 'komplekt modernizatsii - avtomata Kalshnikova' or 'upgrade kit - Kalashnikov assault rifle'.
The KM-AK Obves kits include many of the features that were introduced with the AK-200 series rifles. The AK-200 represents a further development of the AK-100 series and was initially designated as the AK-100M ('M' for modernised). It was rebranded as the AK-200 series in 2018. Most of the improvements introduced on the AK-200 series relate to ergonomics.
The KM-AK includes the AK-200 series' multislotted combination flash suppressor and compensator (allocated a GRAU index code of 6Ch63.13), handguard, index finger operable fire-selector plate, left-side-folding telescoping buttstock, and finger moulded pistol grip - the last three items are also used on the AK-12 and AK-15 assault rifle series. In addition, a new sling and vertical forward grip are also supplied with the kits.
The handguard is made of two pieces. The upper piece, which fits over the gas piston shroud, is made of aluminium and has five elongated venting slots on either side.

Eleven thousand Russians were being evacuated from neighborhoods in Krasnoyarsk region’s city of Achinsk following blasts and a fire at a military storage facility, TASS news agency cited local authorities as saying.

Eight people were injured in the incident, TASS news agency cited doctors as saying. A Russian soldier was killed, TASS cited a source as saying. A source from another agency, RIA, at the defense ministry denied the information about the soldier’s death.

Rusal, the world’s largest aluminum producer outside China, suspended operations at its Achinsk alumina plant and evacuated all but essential staff to ensure their safety, it said.

The plant is Russia’s largest producer of alumina, a raw material which is smelted into aluminum.

Loading is operating on schedule at Russian oil giant Rosneft’s Achinsk oil refinery, TASS quoted a refinery spokesperson as saying. The refinery is located 30km from the military base.

Any idea on the yield of that explosion?
This is absolutely terrifying and HUGE! I did a rough calculation of the fireball diameter based on the shock wave propagation speed and found it to be about 0.2 km! That's the same as a 10 kT yield nuclear bomb! The video was filmed ~3.4 km from the blast.

MOSCOW — Russia's Defense Ministry said two people died and four others were wounded Thursday when a rocket engine exploded during a test.

The ministry said the explosion occurred at a military shooting range in Nyonoksa in the northwestern Arkhangelsk region, causing a fire. It said a total of six servicemen and civilian engineers were injured, and two of them later died of injuries.

The ministry said there was no release of radioactivity or any toxic substances, but the local administration in Severodvinsk about 30 kilometers (about 19 miles) east from Nyonoksa reported a brief increase in radiation levels.

Nyonoksa hosts a navy facility that serves as a base for testing intercontinental ballistic missiles intended for nuclear submarines.

The explosion followed a massive fire that erupted Monday at a military ammunition depot near Achinsk in eastern Siberia's Krasnoyarsk region. The blaze triggered powerful explosions that continued for about 16 hours, killing one person, injuring another 13 and forcing over 16,500 people to flee their homes.

First Look at New Modern Russia’s Special Operations Training Center in Chechnya

A not long time ago, Chechnya was a problematic republic of the Russian Federation, but since Ramzan Kadyrov come to power, Chechnya turned to be one of the most loyal republics to Russian president Vladimir Putin. Today, an only 45-minute drive outside of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, Russia is building a special forces university.

When completed in the near future, sprawling academia of over 420 hectares will provide modern training opportunities for elite soldiers of the Russian Federation’s Spetsnaz forces. The facility will have the capability to accommodate and train 1,500 personal at the same time; many of these operators will be from foreign nations allied with Russia.

The first look tour of the complex has been given to the Tsarizm magazine. Tsarizm was given a private, first look tour of the impressive site. The staff was most gracious and proud to show them the training grounds with a complete, day-long tour, replete with weapons firing and specialized procedures.

As can be seen from their report, the complex has also a hotel with approximately 500 beds, for garrisoning the training of foreign dignitaries and paramilitary groups. It is obvious the effort seeks to generate revenue as well as provide a secure location for classified military rehearsals.

Complete with a mock city for urban warfare operations, an airfield for aviation and parachute training, a myriad of interactive target ranges, and underwater and naval facilities, the ‘academia’ is a one-stop-shop for anyone looking to train with some of the best in the world.

The academia will host and train Spetsnaz operators from all over the Russian Federation and is a feather in Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov’s cap, tying in well with the warrior tradition of his people.

Even for a ship in drydock, fire is the most feared of all things to happen to a ship, firefighting is so complex and risky, especially on a warship. Even though she has been de-ammunitioned and de-fuelled it is still a very dangerous beast to fight fires in them. My thoughts are with the missing, injured and the brave devils that fight the fire

I thought they had written it off after the crane fell on it last year

Nope.. the Russians are spending up to $1 billion USD to re-fit the ship.

The refit, reported to cost about $1 billion, was scheduled following the carrier's deployment as head of a naval strike group off the Syrian coast.

Follow up on the fire;

MOSCOW (AP) — A crew member who went missing during a fire on Russia's only aircraft carrier was found dead Friday, raising the death toll from the blaze to two, the nation's military officials said Friday.

The fire on the Admiral Kuznetsov broke out during welding work at a shipyard in the Arctic port of Murmansk on Thursday and spread quickly through the carrier's internal compartments. The ship's crew and emergency teams spent more than 20 hours battling the blaze.

The military reported two crew members dead, and authorities in Murmansk said 11 other people were injured.

The Investigative Committee, Russia's top state investigative agency, opened a probe into a possible violation of safety rules.

Russia has started to promote the export of armored vehicles based on the latest Bumerang combat platform, with their sales estimated at about $1 billion, the press office of Russia’s state arms seller Rosoboronexport reported on Thursday.

"Rosoboronexport (part of Rostec) has started to promote the latest Bumerang standardized combat platform developed and produced by the Military Industrial Company on foreign markets," the press office said in a statement.

As Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheyev said, countries of Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the CIS have already displayed their interest in the Bumerang combat vehicle.

"We estimate the export of this platform at about $1 billion in the foreseeable future," the press office quoted the Rosoboronexport chief as saying.
