Yes and no. Yes it was technically challenging to take a picture, especially if photographing living (moving) things, but the dead don't move (not on their own at least ...).

Those photographers wanted the perfect picture and bent reality to fit that to the point where in some cases they became works of fiction.
I had family photos taken in that period of great grandfather and grandmother and it was on very thick paper almost like a cardboard box. The photo was cracking and slowly falling apart. I guess it doesn't matter any way since I leave no children to even see the photo, I gave a large box full of those old photos to my sister when she left moving to Arizona years ago. She told me she left them with her son after she was moved to a nursing home. So that means the end of those photos since her son has no idea who any of the people are in the photos. I really thought they would be better preserved if I gave her the photos but I was wrong. Still had I kept them they would still be lost forever when I croak. In that civil war era photography took off like our internet today, hand painted color photos were made in the 20s and I have one of those I will find and post tomorrow. I have old photos of family members pre WWI that have faded so bad you can't even make out who it is. I have two photos of my Great Grandfather, one taken in Cisco Tx during a trail drive, he is on a horse moving cows. The second was made with him working on an old sawing platform for large timber, a huge water powered saw blade. He was a tough old guy and lived to be 104. I hope to be as lucky :0) He had my Grandmother and Brothers working picking cotton for 25 cents a day per kid and one told me that the old man wouldn't allow them to put any coins in the heater at the old motel they were staying in. That was before the depression !

Not at all surprising, the two nations do not and never have liked each other, all this lovey dovey stuff lately is a crock.

The U.S. is providing another $1.7 billion in military aid for Ukraine’s war effort, including air-defense interceptors, anti-tank weapons and munitions, the Pentagon announced Monday.

Up to $200 million will be provided through the presidential drawdown authority, which means equipment is pulled from existing U.S. military stocks and sent to Ukraine on an emergency basis.

About $1.5 billion will be provided through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which gives long-term aid to procure weapons and munitions from the defense industry or partner countries for a later time. This includes capabilities to augment Ukraine’s air defense and anti-tank weapons, as well as funding to sustain equipment previously committed by the United States.

The U.S. has provided about $55.4 billion in military aid to Ukraine since Russian forces invaded in February 2022.

The latest announcement comes after the Pentagon discovered another $2 billion in accounting errors that would allow the U.S. to provide more aid to Ukraine, the GAO reported last week. The department last year discovered it overestimated the value of the weapons and equipment sent to Ukraine by $6.2 billion.

The items in the military aid announced Monday include:

• Munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems.

• Short- and medium-range air defense munitions.

• Missiles for air defense.

• Electronic warfare equipment.

• Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems.

• 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds.

• 120mm mortar rounds.

• Precision aerial munitions.

• Tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided missiles.

• Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems.

• Small arms.

• Explosives material and demolitions equipment and munitions.

• Secure communications systems.

• Commercial satellite imagery services.

• Spare parts, maintenance and sustainment support, and other ancillary equipment.

I still support Ukraine and have no problem with helping them. It would be like every European war before had we not helped, US soldiers would have boots on the ground and we would be dying. All Ukraine ask for was the weapons to be able to win this war and personally I think they have been kicking some Russian a**. I am sure they have been planning for such an attack by Russia since Crimea was stolen without any free nation offering any help, that alone just emboldened the Russians to think they could do anything they like in all of EU not just the Ukraine. From the very first day it was clear to me Ukraine came with a game plan and have held out very well. The first rule of war is fight the enemy on his land, not your own. One other observance, all these millions and billions would be handed out to all the criminals invading our border. They are handing out 20,000 dollars a head to these criminals they love to call migrates. I will love the day when they show the first bunch packed up and shipped out of the country and it is going to happen and it will take that 4 years of Trump in office to accomplish it plus have new legislation and law to prosecute any elected official ignoring our immigration laws period !! never again....

They didn't and there was a lot of criticism about it. They didn't do enough, and that's the only reason why Russia was able to the speedy invasion of Ukrainian territory. Russia had that momentum that was fatal for Ukraine, and once you're there, it's hard to defend.
If they had listened to the US and other analysts, things might have turned out differently. Ukraine also pays its price for corruption and incompetence.

incompetence.
Wouldn't be any different in any other country in a serious war. With rare exception you don't find out who is dangerously incompetent while fighting enemies wearing flip-flops.

The NATO armies currently consist of officers promoted during peace time based primarily on time served and appointed based on their skills as politicians and diplomats, not on proven leadership skills in combat.

Fight a near-peer opponent and those impostors and political appointees are going to be exposed and put out to pasture.

Russian soldiers chop Ukrainian POW to pieces and gleefully post about it to telegram.

I recommend not opening the link.
