Talking about history, there were numouros wars and the metamorphose of briliant generals like Sulla and Cesar into dictators at the end years of the Republic of Rome. Considering that US republic was modeled on Rome it may end up the same way.

This morning thousands of non listed for evacuation Afghan civilians have breached the main gate @ Kabul Int'l Airport [probably a few taliban mixed in as well] & are trying to escape by storming waiting aircraft boarding only listed Embassy staff & listed NGO personnel. US Embassy staff have been told to no longer make their way to the US Embassy or KBL military side & shelter in place & SF soldiers will try to pick them up. US soldiers are presently firing their weapons into the air & not sure if & when they will fire on civilians to protect the continuing evacuation flights [he said calmly].
