At a time when Polish lands were taken by three neighboring powers, it was the Ottoman Empire that was the only state that officially never acknowledged the disappearance of Poland from the world map.

Legend has it that during the partitions at the court of the Sultan the ruler during the presentation of diplomats asked the question: "And where is the representative from Lechistan?". To which the courtiers replied: "A Member of Lechistan has not yet arrived." An empty chair always waited for the Polish ambassador. In addition, after the partitions of Poland, the Sultan did not demolish the building of the Polish embassy, only locking it with the key he kept in the treasury - the last Turkish sultan gave the key to the Polish ambassadors after our homeland regained independence. The national hero of Turkey is the Pole, Józef Bem, often called the "hero of three nations" - Poland, Hungary and Turkey. He was the supreme army commander of the Ottoman Empire. We remember that.
