I don't really follow all of Trump's speeches and I rarely pay attention to media coverage of them, what I have long ago resolved to do is not to give a rat's a$$ about what politicians (whatever their background) say but rather what they do and enable. When it comes to that approach Biden loses by more than a couple of miles. Not due to his obvious dementia I hasten to add.

That is true and I still think that the Russian side will manage to win this war. However, if we are to compare Desert Storm to this, you have to take in perspective that there are several differences.

1) Russian side has sustained at least x2 casualties in 4 days than the whole coalition had in the whole operation.
2) Russian economy unlike the American one at that point is in ruins.
3) Russia lost the information/propaganda war.

This will turn out to be a Russian pyrrhic win and quite possibly the beginning of the end for Putin's regime.

It's the irony of this pointless war that if Putin had just kept his mouth shut and done nothing, the geopolitical situation would've continued to work in Russia's favour. Ukraine would've never been in a position to be granted membership by neither NATO nor EU; the EU would've remained divided; Germany would've remained a bastion of delusional pacifism; Europe would've continued to import Russian fuels en masse; Scandinavia and Switzerland would've remained neutral … the list goes on. It's a colossal act of self-sabotage. But make no mistake, that's not a good sign.

It's exactly what makes Putin so unpredictable and dangerous right now. Did he take a gamble under the guise of nationalism and lose? Or did he really lose his mind and set out to wage a war that is, quite simply, foolish and fraught with risks which a younger Putin would've recognised?
