Caption doesn't make any sense. Volga is a river :) Kirov spent all the the war in the Baltic sea and actually didn't venture to sea after Fall of 1941 acting as a floating artillery battery throughout the war.
TBH I'm going to delete that post mate, The site I got the photo from had different Russian guys arguing over which vessel this is and where it was. A pity because I like the image but the provenance is crap!;)

They are all wrong. This is Sevastopol immediately post war 1945-1946. The cruiser is Molotov (you could a see a catapult with Be-4 float plane), honestly I would say Spring-Summer 1946 as the ship suffered a major accident in October 1946.

Project 26bis Kirov-class cruiser of the Soviet Navy that served during World War II and into the Cold War, probably Molotov given the white screens which were a feature of Molotov

Molotov had her catapult installed 1943 but all ships in the class had them removed by 1947 which puts this image between '43 and '47. I'm convinced you're correct in it being Molotov. Kirov also had a heavy foremast which is lacking in this image. Thanks for your help with this mate, very appreciated (Y)

More about the cruiser Molotov

100787-main.jpg

Project 26-bis Soviet light cruiser of the Black Sea Fleet Molotov anchored in Sevastopol. 1941.

During the repair, the stern, dismantled from the unfinished cruiser "Frunze", was docked with the hull of the cruiser "Molotov". On the night of August 3, 1942, the cruiser "Molotov" and the leader "Kharkov" fired at the port of Feodosia and the berths of Dvuyakornaya Bay to destroy the enemy ships and floating assets concentrated there, preparing to cross the Kerch Strait and land on the Taman Peninsula. During a combat mission, the ship was attacked by a German torpedo plane. One of the two fired torpedoes hit the starboard aft end of the ship. The explosion tore off 20 meters of the aft end of the cruiser (up to the 262th sp.) With a rudder, a tiller compartment with a steering gear and a chemical compartment. 18 people were killed in the aft compartments. All rooms in the area of the explosion were destroyed, the bracket of the right shaft line deformed, and the propeller shaft cone was bent.
The repairs were carried out by the plant No. 201 in Poti from October 1942 to July 1943.

Fall, 1941. Soviet warships photographed by German aerial reconnaissance at Kronstadt Naval Base. The largest ship (number "2") is the heavy cruiser Kirov (1936-circa 1975); the vessel at centre (number "1") is a Leningrad class destroyer leader (either Leningrad or Minsk ).
