Explanation of Martisor tradition - (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mărțișor)

Sergeant Sarah G., a Jäger –light infantry– petty officer, serves as a platoon leader with the Land Warfare Training Centre at Altmark Proving Grounds. The Centre provides combined arms proficiency to units from Germany and allied nations alike, particularly the Dutch and Singaporean armies. Sgt G.'s unit is tasked with simulating the opposing forces (OPFOR) and as such plays a crucial role in honing the visiting troops' skills.

An arrival from perhaps the most unlikely of backgrounds, the 24-year-old had entered her working life as a hairdresser but always struggled to identify with the occupation. "I looked for more challenging and fulfilling a role", the young woman says. Joining the light infantry quickly became her heartfelt wish. "I knew right away: If I'm going to be a soldier, I can't just watch from the sidelines. I need to go out there, rifle in hand."

G. praises the army's esprit d'corps. "The cohesion is great, and it's amazing how many people you get to know", she says. "Come to think of it, the army has been like a village for me." Challenged about gender roles and her reception by the men, G. is having none of it: A bit of teasing is par for the course. And when asked what she would do if one of the men demanded a haircut, she quips: "Then he's going to get a bloody fine haircut."

Female members of UA SOF, I would say posing, for Internation Women's Day that is still celebrated in Ukraine. As for why I would say posing, supposedly no woman has yet completed selection corse of SOF for combat specialties though many tried with not a bad results at the start. According to the commander of UA SOF today around 500 women serve in different units of UA SOF around 60 of them are officers. They serve mostly on support and administrative posts.

WOW, she's stunning what a honey!! You guys got some of the best looking maidens in Europe!!

Doesn't apply to me. I'm an American Jew. :p However, personal observation, the tougher / more dangerous military profession, the better Ukrainian servicewomen look.

I have nothing but respect for those women who swap their comfortable civilian lives for a tour through the muds of Eastern Ukraine. And to think that broads like Lena Dunham or Adriana Grande are touted as female role models instead…
