President Mrs. Boluarte confirms it will purchase warplanes for $3.5 billion.

The government has completed its selection process to acquire 24 fighter jets for the FAP, and the chosen model is the Gripen E, manufactured by Saab in Sweden and Brazil. On July 10, the Swedish Minister of Defense will arrive in Peru to finalize details.
What had been an open secret in the halls of the Ministry of Defense was confirmed yesterday. The Dina Boluarte government agreed to indebt the Peruvian state for US$3.5 billion to purchase 24 warplanes to prepare the country for a possible war. All of this is part of the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) modernization project.
During the month of June, Perú21 received information—and made it public—about the latest meetings held at the ministry and at the offices of the FAP with the Swedish company Saab, manufacturer of the Gripen E fighter jet. Industry sources confirmed that these meetings took place in the final stages of the procurement process because, for the institution, the aircraft in question meets all the requirements and satisfies the needs of the Peruvian government. In other words, the FAP chose the Gripen E to modernize the famous Mirage 2000.
