This week Finnish Air Force holds the annual Ilmataktiikka 18 (Air Combat Tactics) exercise. The second flying day of the exercise on Tuesday 24 April was kicked off with a total of F/A-18 multi-role fighters taking off from Rovaniemi Air Base for the morning wave.

A combat training and firing exercise of the Finnish Army, the exercise Pohjoinen 18 is organised in the Rovajärvi training area from 24 May to 7 June 2018.
Altogether roughly 8,200 people and approximately 1,800 vehicles from the Finnish Defence Forces, the Police of Finland, and the Finnish Border Guard will partake in the exercise. This exercise will also bring to Finland exercise detachments of the Swedish Army from the Norrbotten Regiment. This training forms part of the bilateral cooperation between the Armies of Finland and Sweden (FISE).

The Kvarn 18 exercise was conducted by the Jaeger Guard Regiment, which was carried out in Kvarn, Sweden, from 13 to 19 May 2018. Altogether, this exercise incorporate approximately 300 conscripts and personnel partaking from Finland complemented by a platoon-size number of Swedish participating personnel.

As such, the training implementation in this excellently instrumented, well-equipped urban warfare training environment will enable conducting realistic combat missions in a built-up area allowing for calibrated measuring of urban jaegers’ performance capability and providing conscripts with feedback. In addition, this exercise will facilitate developing troops’ mobilisation and concentration as part of international exercises.
