During a unique exercise in the harbor of Den Helder, marines of the Surface Assault and Training Group (SATG) had to be
and the Koninklijke Landmacht disinfectant company (414th) working together to hold and disinfect a terrorist hijacked ship with unknown chemical load. So not only did the terrorists have to disinfect, also the load, vehicles and the ship itself. So a serious amphibious collaboration, with a training of the Koninklijke Marine for, among other things, Chemical, Organic, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Control.
Is such a terrorist attack with chemical weapons a doomsday scenario? Maybe, but CBRN contains more than just chemical and / or nuclear attack. F
Correct name is 414th CBRN Defence Coy which is part of the 13th Light Brigade in Oirschot, NLD. CBRN is just Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, not Organic

Just my 2 cents;)

Soldiers of the 11 Airmobile Brigade on Curaçao and the Marine Corps posted on Aruba follow the French Commando Training given by 33e Régiment d'infanterie de Marine in Martinique.
During this training they are tested both physically and mentally by the French colleagues. The temperatures and humidity in this jungle area are different than they are used to in their own area.
The training opportunity is possible every odd year. In even years, the marines in Aruba provide challenging training for the French.

In those days (1996) the political correctness wasn't that much..... party at the base with the tank people.

20060125_DEU_Bergen-schietbaan.JPG

Sodomising a wooden goat at the range in Bergen (DEU). Little did we know that it would all happen live in Afghanistan a couple of years later starring the local Afghan and donkeys, sheep and everything with a heartbeat.....

In Bosnia-Hercegovina we had checkpoint duty, the YPR-765PRCO was of course full of young men and this car with local women got some more attention than the average guy.

The Bulgarian infantry platoon was coupled with the Dutch tank platoon and became battle buddies all along. Here the Dutch platoon is firing ''the mouthpiece of the Warsaw Pact'' the RPG-7

20150114_MLI_Gao_ met 122mm scherf.JPG

Shrapnel from a 122 mm rocket which exploded close to our position. The attached navy guy was not amused that everything was riddled with shrapnel..... normally he was based as helicopter technician at a navy vessel... welcome by the army:cool:

The were looking for volunteers to train the air force guard dogs, I volunteered and it was real fun, some scratches and bruises thats all. Those dogs loved to ''play'' like this.

Despite all the fences and razor wire sometimes a local donkey got on the base. There was no fence around the runway, so the French air force which controlled the airfield had a special donkey patrol to keep the runway donkey and goat free. The first time I arrived the cargo plane pilot announced that he was going to make a low pass over the runway to see if it was free of goats and donkeys. I looked at my colleague and asked him ''did I hear it correct that he is going to check the runway for animals - Yes I heard that also'' he answered. Great times!

20150122_MLI_Gao_X-200 emblemen det 2 (2).jpg

Our locally made, not official patch of the detachment. The green are dollars, the black symbol the tactical sign of a UAV and the moon and star for the many night missions. The ''flying for the UN dollar'' is up to your imagination. Higher up was not pleased when they found out.....

20150219_MLI_Gao_75 missies.jpg

We had a guy who was a military history buff and he came with this Vietnam era USAF inspired mission patch. Here also, higher up of the army went ballistic since we were official an army unit. But our det. commander was air force and for some of these patches he allowed us to wear it at the air force side of the base were we had our position.

20141023_MLI_Gao_poppencastor_puppet theater.jpg

The engineers made a puppet theatre named ''Poppen Castor''. The camp was named Camp Castor and in Dutch puppet theatre is ''poppen kast' of which the last is pronounced the same as Castor. The why is again up to your imagination....

We also had a Royal Netherlands Marine Corps Sergeant attached who did some spray painting on our platform of which the captain was not amused when he found out. He ordered him to remove the paint which was of course not possible. But we did have a good laugh....
