Iran attacked Israel on the night of April 13-14. Iran's operation is called "True Promise" and is Iran's response to Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus. This is Iran's first direct attack on Israel from its territory, reportedly targeting Israeli military targets. The strike on Israel was carried out using kamikaze drones Shahed-136, Shahed-131 and jet drones Shahed-238. Sumar cruise missiles and Fateh-110 and Khaybar ballistic missiles are also used, capable of carrying different types of warheads, including multiple warheads. Other types of missiles are also used. Data on the number of Iranian missiles and drones are contradictory, with some media reporting that Iran has used 185 drones, 36 cruise missiles and 110 surface-to-surface missiles. The Iranian attack is currently considered the most massive drone attack in world history. In repelling an attack by Iran, Israel is assisted by aircraft from the United States, Great Britain and France. Jordan also intercepts missiles; the video shows debris from a downed Iranian missile in Aman. Israel has reported intercepting 99% of Iran's missiles and drones, but this cannot be true as Israeli residents film Iranian missile strikes. The video shows rare footage of an Iranian ballistic missile interception taking place outside the Earth's atmosphere. Footage of Iranian missile attacks on the Ramon airbase in the Negev desert was also published. According to the latest data, Israel reported that the damage from the attacks was insignificant and that it would launch a retaliatory strike against Iran within 48 hours. The United States announced that it would not support Israel's attack on Iran. The commander of the Iranian IRGC said that Iran's operation against Israel was more successful than expected and he does not plan to continue it, but in case of an Israeli strike, he will strike back with a more powerful strike. The following shows the work of Israeli air defense and attacks by Iranian missiles and drones.

Kurds are also reported to have participated in taking down Iranian missiles and drones.

Though it is not known if they actually managed to score any hits.

On a, kind of, touchy tangent, considering that strike was, as Iran claims, in retaliation for the Israeli strike on the Iranian embassy in Syria... wouldn't that make that retaliation a "legitimate" one?

Embassies and consulates are, indeed, hallowed and protected grounds; unless Iran isn't a signatory, or follower, of whatever clause granting that right?

One more time for you.
They attacked a building adjacent to the embassy, which the Iranians were using as a safe house for meetings of IRGC and Hezbollah cadres.

The confusion is understandable, the MSM is deliberately trying to make it out like the consulate itself was hit.

What was destroyed was a consular annex adjacent to the embassy.

Though not the embassy itself, it remains part of the complex.

Diplomatic buildings are entitled to protections from attack or other interference by the host country under international customary law. It is of the host country's responsibility to insure the safety of these buildings.
A third party country may conduct strike on said building only if said building hosts military objectives AND the country attacking is acting in self defense.
And even in a case of self-defense a strike on an uninvolved foreign country is "usually" not permitted.

In which case, was it an act of self-defense or not?

Please sir, how about you keep your mouth shut? Hum?

Fact.
The Iranian consulate is in Aleppo

The Times of Israel reports 200 missiles and drones were launched, most of which successfully intercepted. Allegedly, no hits were scored in Israel itself. American, British and Jordanian units also shot down some missiles and drones. Iranian officials suggest that they'll leave it at that, but Tel Aviv says that "now it's Iran's turn to go sleepless" against a backdrop of claims that Biden won't back an Israeli counter-attack.

Frankly, Biden might actually be right in this instance. Israel targeted some henchmen of Iran's, Iran retaliated as Israel knew that they would. And the retaliation was ineffective. Israel claims that they successfully repelled the attack with no loss of life or damage to property.

You could argue that that feat in itself is enough of a flex. If nothing has happened, is it really worth striking back in kind and risking a wider war whilst Israel is still busy dealing with Hamas and Hisbullah?

Having said that, some of the videos circulating on the internet seem to speak against the Israeli version. There's fresh footage of some ballistic munitions hitting something in a developed area. Some OSINT Twitter accounts say Ramon Air Base was hit by ballistic missiles.
Everyone forgets that Iran is on the finish line of having Nuclear capability. Are there any visionaries left out there, can you imagine what Iran will do once they have that option to threaten and or launch on Israel. It is their creed to destroy Israel and they make no bones about it and openly say it everyday. Religious Fanatics have no business having nuclear weapons. Israel has already vowed to take them out before they get them simply because we don't have strong presidents today. If you just step back to the clinton regime you can see all that has transpired while he was busy screwing the hired help. Everything that has happened since that time shows that fanatics aren't bull s itting when they say something. They really do hate Israel and America and the UK, take Iran down now while you still have a chance. Destroy their oil fields and their military and Iran will resume being a friendly nation as it was before the carter blunder era.

All this hoopla about bombing Iranian trouble makers and murderers means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. People have been listening to leftist media too long and make no mention of Iran seizing our embassy in Tehran and making all the staff prisoners for 444 days. I say f ck Iran and their embassy and no country should allow them to have any consulate any where in the world. It is a dictatorship waging proxies murder and mayhem and nothing more. We have so many dummies in our world and our governments who are content to stuff their pockets with cash and screw the people that voted for them, the voters are stupid and expendable. ;0)

You don't know about the Iranian embassy in Damas, huh?

You don't know the difference between an embassy and a consulate, huh?

Or how the two are usually working together?

Or how an embassy can have consulate annexes built just next door?

You know, as part of the work a consulate does?

You do also know consulate buildings, just like embassies, be them the consulate itself or annexes, enjoy the same privileges as embassies? Right? You do know that?

You know... Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and all of these others facts?

40 Years ago at a certain Embassy this occurred:-

If israel knew what the meeting was about, which presumably they did, then the staff were military, so its self defence.

Diplomatic immunity does not infer that you are untouchable/can plot mass murder etc.

and it can either be a 3rd country, Syria's land, in which case its an issue for Syria, or it was iranian consular land, so it is an issue for Iran, cant be both.

That would depend on what constitutes "self defense", and/or if that was indeed a case of "self defense".

Military personnel meeting at an embassy, or on consular ground, don't necessarily equate "hostile act". Iran and Syria have, obviously, diplomatic ties and the Iranian military is involved in Syria.
Now what was the meeting about? Only Israel knows, and also Syria and Iran.
Could it have been related to Israel? Sure.
Could it have been related to things other than Israel? That's also possible.
Was it a great opportunity for Israel? Well yeah.
Is Israel known for having a reputation of being a bit sketchy when it comes to doing barely-legal stuff abroad? Yeah, quite a bit. But so does Iran and Syria (though perhaps not as well known for their efficiency).

As I said, we don't know, though the parties involved do. So we are left with plausible scenarios.
