1/4 became the first 1st Marine Division unit to field the new Joint Light-Weight Tactical Vehicles. JLTV’s replace the HMMWV to provide the units better force protection and manoeuvrability.

The U.S. Army activated new Field Artillery Battalion, that received a batch of new M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), to assist European missions.
1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment located at the garrison in Sembach, Germany, was activated Sept. 19 at the 7th Army Training Command’s Tower Barracks parade field, Grafenwoehr, Germany, according to an Army news release.
U.S. Army Col. Seth A, Knazovich, Commander of the 41st Field Artillery Brigade, and Lt. Col. Angel M. Llompart, and the Commander of the 1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment participated in the battalion’s activation ceremony.

During the Battle of Najaf, U.S. Marine James Hassell, risked his life to carry his wounded buddy, Ryan Borgstrom, 60 yards through open gunfire. When a Newsweek photographer captured the moment, Hassell simply said, "We're Marines. That's what we do." The Marines of Charlie Company 1st Battalion 4th Marine Regiment carried out a raid on the Najaf residence of Moqtada al-Sadr during the Battle of Najaf on August 12, 2004.

That story almost had me in tears. In today's society it's a case of the more things changed the more they stay the same......the struggles of our veterans of all wars still struggle and if anything the changing face and pace of warfare has a profoundly exaggerated effect on vets ?
