There have been a significant uptick in fighting over the last few days with Ukrainian forces suffering at least 3 KIA in the span of 48 hours. So far, the names of the two fallen Marines have been revealed. Both from the 1st Independent Marines Battalion.

Staff Sergeant Mykola Obuhovskiy and Sailor Oleksandr Linchevskiy.
Mykola was one of the very few Ukrainian servicemen who remained loyal to Ukraine and left Crimea back in 2014. He leaves behind a wife and a young daughter. Preliminary reports indicate that both soldiers were killed by a Russian sniper in a single engagement.

The tragedy struck home. One of the guys from the "Alfa" unit that I was supporting for the last few years and the pictures can be seen in counter terror units thread was killed on September 11th, 2019 during a highly complex training mission in Odessa region.

His name was Oleksandr Ivankov Sr. Lieutenant SBU

The Ukrainian Alfa much as its Russian counterpart is expected to do everything from serving high risk warrants within Ukrainian borders one day to search and destroy missions deep behind enemy lines the next, essentially overlapping both, police and military duties. The is the Soviet legacy, unfortunately. In my opinion, given the reality on the ground, the training should be focused on real life scenarios and not for something of remote possibility and for which there is an alternative in the armed forces to begin with.

Because the lives and identities of the members of the Alfa team are state secret they don't get their dues when unthinkable happens. Fortunately, at least in case of Oleksandr, the State and SNU gave his friends a tacit approval to make a short video documenting Oleksandr's short, but very honorable life. It's also public on my Facebook page.
