Hello. I found a few more photos and information about these tanks on our resources.

"The Afghan army began using T-34 tanks in 1957. They came, as you might guess, from the USSR. Only 25 pieces. Other weapons came in, including the legendary PPSh. In 1973, a new replenishment arrived - more than a hundred tanks. Apparently the USSR simply did not know where to put them and gave them to Afghanistan. Only there were not enough experienced crews at that time. Before the introduction of the Soviet troops, there were still seven years, and it was not always possible to train experienced crews in the USSR.

The "combat path" of the T-34-85 began with an operation against the famous field commander Ahmad Shah in 1975. Probably after that, the Mujahideen were able to get some cars at their disposal. Many of them were no longer used as tanks, but as firing points, since due to poor maintenance they became unusable and were not on the move."

I also immediately found information about the SU-76. In the early 1950s, the USSR transferred 20 self-propelled guns to Afghanistan, although their production ceased in 1945. Some cars were in parts right up to the early 1970s. In the official Soviet reports on the 1979-1989 war. there is no mention of the SU-76 encountered. There are no corresponding photos of the ACS in action. However, when American troops captured Kabul in 2001, an old SU-76 skeleton was discovered near the city. Apparently, during the 1992-1996 civil war. he was returned to service.

Since we touched on the topic of Afghan tanks, I post these photos of Afghan armoured vehicles I took from Getty Images.
