Guns of the 11th Field Regiment in action with Robcol, Ruweisat Ridge, El Alamein, July 1942 - By Cyril Mount.
On 2 July 1942, the British defense of Ruweisat Ridge relied on an improvised formation called Robcol, consisting of a field artillery regiment, a light anti-aircraft artillery regiment, and an infantry company. Robcol, in accordance with common practice in the British Army for ad hoc formations, was named after its commander, Brigadier General Robert Waller, artillery commander of the 10th Indian Infantry Division. Robcol was able to buy time, and in the late afternoon, two British armored brigades entered the battle. They repulsed repeated Axis attacks, which forced them to withdraw before nightfall. The British reinforced Ruweisat during the night of 2 July. The expanded Robcol was renamed Walgroup.

When looking into my grandads war history with 12 Regt RHA (HAC) in Tunisia one of the Battles that is well know is the fight for Longstop Hill. ARTILLERY AND TANKS WITH TROOPS ON ONE BIG BATTLE

MAJOR J.T.M. ANDERSON VC DSO
8th (Argyllshire) Battalion The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

In Tunisia, strong resistance on Longstop Hill blocked the Allied advance on Tunis. On 23 April 1943 the 8th Battalion launched their attack supported by tanks of the North Irish Horse.

On approach, the Commanding Officer and his headquarters were killed. 25 year old Major ‘Jack’ Anderson assumed command. Despite a leg wound, he led the uphill assault, personally overcoming several enemy machine gun posts and mortar positions. The toll was heavy, reducing the Battalion to about 44 officers and men, but the objective was taken with 200 prisoners.

For his gallant leadership, Anderson was awarded the Victoria Cross. He was killed in action in Italy some months later.

You're fine @BOB.T the problem is just posters who drop links to other social media without any explanation or context. We want posters to actually engage with members....Again, you're fine mate (Y)

And the image is box art from a MasterBox kit
