Since 1972, the Mirage 5COA have been the backbone of the Air Force, by 1990, with the arrival of the IAI Kfir, they underwent updating processes with technicians from Israel and Colombia and were renamed the Mirage 5COAM, until 2010, when they were retired from service after 38 years of uninterrupted flight defending the Colombian skies.

Today was the opening ceremony at the parade grounds for Fuerzas Comando, DR Fuerzas First Brigade, Santo Domingo, June 12, 2023. Twenty two countries will compete in Fuerzas Comando (FC23), a Special Operations Forces (SOF) skills competition, to earn the title of the country with "the best special operations in the Americas" between June 12-21. FC23 supports U.S. Southern Command’s initiative to enhance multinational and regional cooperation, trust, and confidence through persistent and consistent engagements with allies and partners in the western hemisphere.

Training, Force, Tactics and Strategy are the primary concepts by which the Special Forces commandos of the Joint Special Operations Command of the Colombian Armed Forces will develop and apply during the Fuerzas Comando 2023 competition. The Special Forces Olympics will take place in the town of Sierra Pietra in the Dominican Republic who will host this year's 2023 tournament.
