The Reis class is planning to replace 6 Type 209-1200 (Ay Class) submarine in Turkish Navy service which were also built in Gölcük Naval Shipyards during Late 1970s. With 14 active submarines Turkish Navy has the NATO's second biggest submarine fleet after USN which is also the biggest diesel-electric submarine fleet of the organisation.

What's going on here?

Regular battery control on one of the Type 209-1400 class submarines in Turkish Navy service. To see if the cables are properly connected or are there any kind of damage on the battery cells or cables that can easily cause serious issues beneath the water.

DENO, there are Russian PKM MGs on several photos, but Turkey`s MG is MG-3 - why do you use such a non-standard weapon for different cartridge?

PKMs are started to used with the captured ones from the insurgent groups in Iraq during early 1990s. Its being benefitted because of its higher mobility and less malfunction rate compared to standard issue MKEK MG3s. Since then onwards PKMs are mostly being used as mobile status machine gun and MG3s as fixed position machine gun as well as vehicle gun. Turkish military has supplied PKMs from China, Bulgaria and Iraq and currently getting parts and ammo for them from Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. And the the ones you see with the polymer stock are Bulgarian ARSENAL produced 7.62x51mm NATO variant which uses same ammo with the rest of the general purpose machine guns in Turkish service.

Lastly Turkish Army is planning to replace MG3s and PKMs with two different MGs which are MKEK PMT-76 (Platform Machine Gun-76) developed over FN MAG to replace MG3s issued in fixed positions and vehicle guns (that I have already shared). And MKEK MMT-76 (National Machine Gun-76) developed over PKM with several improvements like 7.62x51mm NATO ammo to replace regular PKMs used by mobile units.

PMT-76

A remarkable detail, MKEK PMT-76 machine gun being used on Aselsan Sarp remote weapon stations of the BMC Kirpi II MRAPs. PMT-76 is a FN MAG clone with slightly improved dynamics such as reduced weight and rail attachment. It's aimed to replace the aging MG-3 machine guns used on fixed positions and also as vehicle weapons.
