Nui Dat, South Vietnam. April 1970. Vietnamese honey bear cub, Raechel (wearing a digger's hat), apes it up with Corporal Bob Charles of Newmarket, Qld, at the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base. The bear cub is the new mascot and pet of the soldiers of Headquarter Company. She was adopted by the men after her mother was shot by infantry when she charged through the soldiers' night location, setting off trip flares.

Wearing the latest in bush hats, this feathered beauty was captured for Aviary as she flittered among the rubber trees. She is Alice (that's her real name - her father is French). Alice was invited to Nui Dat to help entertain children from the Baria Orphanage at a Headquarters 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) children's party.
