William John Edward MORTON. Lieutenant 5th attached to 2nd Royal Irish Rifles Previously 2nd Lieutenant with York and Lancaster Regiment
Born on 9 January 1888 in Victoria Terrace, Holywood and he was a son of William and Annie Morton (nee Coulter)
1901 residing with his parents and siblings at 1 Victoria Street, Holywood
1911 residing with widowed father and siblings at 1 Street, Holywood. Occupation manufacturers agent in cotton and linen goods.
Killed in action at Hooge 4 September 1915 aged 27. His father was granted a gratuity 1 March 1916

Commemorated on a family headstone in Holywood Cemetery, Holywood, County Down, also on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
