ST PAUL'S CHURCH WAR MEMORIAL. MOUNT PLEASANT STOKE ON TRENT.
NOW ON DISPLAY IN ALL SAINTS CHURCH, LEEK ROAD, JOINER'S SQUARE, STOKE ON TRENT.

To the Glory of God and in honoured and proud memory of the men of MOUNT PLEASANT who gave their lives in the World War 1939 – 1945.

And in appreciation of all who rendered valued service. Also all who served in the
War of 1914 – 1918.

Enlisted 12 May 1916 aged 18 years and 11 months at Great Yarmouth and was posted to Royal Garrison Artillery as Private No. 84313, occupation coal carter and residence 31 Bridge Street, Mount Pleasant.
12 June 1916 posted as Gunner to 150th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery.
26 August 1916 embarked from Southampton for France.
27 August 1916 disembarked in France.
12 August 1918 killed in action.
His body was exhumed by the Imperial War Graves Commission 30 October 1919 and re-buried in Heath Cemetery, Somme, France.
His mother received his personal property, 3 unopened letters, cards, photographs, watch, match box cover, discs and an Ingersoll watch and lanyard.
At rest in Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, Somme, France.

Born 12 February 1923, Hood River, Oregon, USA
Son of Armas Theodore Edmund and Alice Dougal Clark Jakku. Husband of Vera Grace Wheeler.
During WWII 2nd Lt. Stuart Jakku served as a bombardier with 758th Bomb Squadron, 457th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force flying out of RAF Glatton Cambridgeshire, England.
He and the intelligence observer, Captain Lloyd A. Cox, were in the forward aspect of the bomber when the aircraft was hit by flak in that area, killing Cox and severely wounding the bombardier, Lt. Jakku, who died in Sweden.
The aircraft came down at the grass covered airfield in Jonkoping. Sweden. The surviving crew were interned at Mullsjo Internment Camp, Sweden. Apparently, the crew was later freed from internment on the 1st December 1944.
He died in hospital in Sweden and initially buried in Malmo.
This was Mission # 133 to Politz, Poland for 7 October 1944. He was aboard B-17 (42-102905) from 457th Bomb Group, RAF Glatton, USAAF Station 130, Cambridgeshire, England.
He left a young wife, Vera Jakku (nee Morris), whom he'd married in England.
Lt. Jakku was interred in Idlewilde Cemetery, Hood River, Hood River County, Oregon, Plot: Block B, Lot 63, Grave 2.

Son of Charles and Sarah Ann Jones (nee Smith) of Stoke-on-Trent, husband of Mary Elizabeth Jones (nee Johnson) of Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent.

25 March 1918 his father died in action whilst serving as Lance Sergeant G/11156 with the 23rd Royal Fusiliers.
Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
N.B. CWGC recorded his name as Morriston Mountford.
