HMS Ramillies Memorial

Extended Description
Charles Edward YOUNG. Sergeant P/22052 Royal Marines on HMS Ramillies. Born 7 January 1906 at Portsmouth, to Charles E and Isabel Young nee Cope, husband of Doris Maud nee Stilwell. Accidently thrown overboard when he was struck by a swinging davit as the ship was approaching the Grand Harbour, Malta in very rough seas and drowned 2 March 1939 aged 33. His body was not recovered.

Alec Talbot TURNER. Lieutenant, Royal Marine on HMS Ramillies. Born 1916 at Tonbridge, Kent to Alexander Forrest and Andree Isabel Turner nee Talbot. Dived overboard to try and save Sergeant Young but he too lost his life. Drowned 2 March 1939. His body was not recovered. For his gallant action this officer received the posthumous award of the Albert Medal

Memorial is situated in the Royal Marine Barracks, Stone House, Plymouth
