In sincere appreciation of the loyalty and courage of 545 Men of this congregation who served with the colours in the defence of Empire and Liberty. and in loving memory of the following who made the great sacrifice.

Francis Adair. Rifleman 5766, 2nd Royal Irish Rifles. Resided at 14 Wimbledon Street, Belfast. Died 22 August 1914. At rest in Lonsdale Cemetery, Somme, France

William Warnock. Private 6699. 2nd Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Son of James and Sarah Warnock 1 Richmond Street, Belfast. Died 26 August 1914 aged 32 years. Commemorated on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, France.

Francis McCullough. Rifleman 8739, C Coy, 2nd Royal Irish Rifles. Son of William James and Annie McCullough, of 42, Downing Street, Belfast, husband of Catherine McCullough, of 42, Cavour Street, Belfast. Died 15 September 1914 aged 24 years. Commemorated on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, France.

David Tully. Stoker 1st Class, Royal Fleet Reserve Ch. B9914, formerly SS107383. Royal Navy on HMS Hawke. Born 30 March 1889 to George and Susannah Tully of 95 Bristol Street. Enlisted 20 July 1908 on HMS Acheron. Transferred 20 July 1913 to RFR, Chatham. B9914 on HMS Hawke. Drowned in the North Sea 15 October 1914 aged 25 years as the result of the sinking of his ship by a German Submarine. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval memorial, Kent.

William Armstrong. Rifleman 8449, 2nd Royal Irish Rifles. Resided at 23 Yarrow Street, Belfast. Died 27 October 1914. Commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, France.

On the 2 March 1918 Charlotte’s gratuity was revised on the request of her brother Herbert. On the 23 December 1919 a war gratuity was paid to Elizabeth he is recorded as his mother. John Arthur Priestly. Private Ply/15258, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Born 28 June 1892 to Samuel and Marie Priestly of 371 Woodstock Road, Belfast formerly of 28 Ravenhill Street, Belfast. Enlisted at Belfast 15 February 1911 and posted to the Depot at Deal, Kent. Civilian occupation, apprentice riveter at Belfast shipyard. On the 29 August 1917 he was discharged from the marines, disabled. Died 13 May 1918 aged 27 years. At rest in Ford Park Cemetery, Plymouth, Devon.

Henry Savage. Rifleman 743, 19th Royal Irish Rifles. Born 25 October 1888 at Newtownards, County Down. In 1901 he was residing with his parents Hugh and Mary Ann along with his siblings at 30 Ballykine Lower, Glassdrummon, County Down. 1911 residing at 24 Raleagh, Ballynahinch, County Down. He was residing with his wife Sarah and his two children at 112 Bristol Street. Died 18 May 1918.
He enlisted into the Royal Scots Regiment 20 March 1915 aged 26 years and 237 days. Transferred into the army reserve. He resided at 5 Carnan Street, Belfast with his wife Sarah, nee Orr who he married 30 August 1913 in Belfast. He was employed as a cloth passer by Woodburn Weaving Company, Carrickfergus, County Antrim. On the 20 April 1915 he was mobilised to Edinburgh and posted into 17th Battalion as private 21707. He was medically discharged from the army 3 June 1915.
He re-enlisted on the 20 October 1916 aged 28 years and 9 months and posted to the 19th Royal Irish Rifles as private 743. He resided with his wife and children at 112 Bristol Street, Belfast, occupation cloth passer. He was on a medical board 11 April 1917 at Murthly War Hospital, Perthshire. Due to his condition it was recommended that he be discharged as being no longer physically fit for war service. He had general paralysis, which was total permanent. He was granted a pension of £55. His wife stated at the board he was previously invalided out of the Scotch Regiment. He was discharged 2 May 1917 to Newtownards Infirmary, County Down.

Alexander Hillian. Driver 57775, 122nd Field Coy, Royal Engineers. Born 1887 in Glasgow to William and Margaret Hillian of Tollcross, Glasgow. In 1901 he was residing with his parents and siblings at Green House, Shettleston, Lanarkshire. He was married at Glasgow Registry Office to Mary Green Steele on the 2 February 1907. Now in Ireland he enlisted in the Royal Engineers at Belfast on the 30 December 1914 at Belfast. His was residing with his wife and four children at the time of enlistment was 189 Agnes Street, Belfast, occupation, baker. At some stage his family moved to 106 Malvern Street. He embarked to France with the Royal Engineers on the 4 October 1916. He died in 3rd Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne from gunshot wound to left thigh and gas gangrene on the 31 May 1918. His family on the 3 June 1918 were residing at 14 Upper Malvern Street, Shankill Road, Belfast. At rest in Wimereux Communal Cemetery, France.

John Smith. Private 379708, 233rd Employment Coy, Labour Corps, formerly 17/471, 10th Royal Irish Rifles. Son of David and Catherine Smith, of 111 Bray Street, Belfast. Died 21 June 1918. At rest in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France.

William Albert George Henry White. Private 54192, Royal Army Medical Corps. Husband of Emma White of 20 Sylvan Street, Belfast. Died 7 July 1918 aged 33 years. Laid to rest in Dundonald Cemetery, Belfast 10 July 1918.

George Tully. Rifleman 3494, 15th Royal Irish Rifles. Born 1895 in Belfast to George and Susanna Tully, nee Hughes. 1901 he was residing with his parents and siblings at 65 Hudson Street, Belfast, 1911 still with his parents and siblings at 39 Bristol Street, Belfast. Resided with his wife Agnes Ann, nee Haveron at 95 Bristol Street. Died 25 August 1918. His widow was granted a war gratuity 11 November 1919. Laid to rest at Hautmont Communal Cemetery, France.

Wilson Smyth. Corporal 42167, 9th North Irish Horse, Royal Irish Fusiliers. Born 1888 to William Henry and Isabella. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at 45 Beresford Street, Belfast. In 1911 he was residing with his wife and daughter, Eliza at 2 Anglesea Street, Belfast. At the time of his death his wife was residing 6 Brenda Street, Belfast. Died 25 August 1918 aged 25 years. His widow was granted a war gratuity 16 December 1918, revised 11 February 1919. She was called Elizabeth Murdoch. At rest in Mont Noir Military Cemetery, St. Jans-Cappel, France

Nathaniel Curry. Gunner 78667, 27th Divisional ammunition Colum, Royal Field Artillery. Son of John Henry and Elizabeth Allen Curry of 6 Aberdeen Street, Belfast. Died Belfast Military Hospital, 27 August 1918 aged 24 years. His father was granted a war gratuity 25 February 1917, revised 19 May 1919 and 4 December 1919. At rest in Carnmoney Cemetery, Belfast.

Matthew Wilson. Born 1892 in Ballymena, County Down to John and Martha Wilson. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at of 23, Barnish, County Antrim. 1901 residing with his mother Martha at 41 Hopeton Street. Died 31 August 1918. CWGC do not have a M Wilson who died 31 August 1918.

James Kelly. Private 41577, 9th Royal Irish Fusiliers. Son of Sampson and Ellen Kelly, of 137, Manor Street Belfast. Manor Street was not far from Perth Street, same area. Died in a prisoner of war hospital at Furstenfeldbruck, near Munich, Germany 5 September 1918 aged 24 years. His widow Margaret A was granted a war gratuity 30 June 1919. At rest in Arneke British Cemetery, France.

Edmund Steven Scott. Son of John and Mary Scott, nee Wilson. 1901 residing with his parents at 18 Upper Charleville Street, Shankill, Belfast and later of 10 Diamond Street, Belfast. Emigrated to and served in the American Army in France. Died 25 November 1918 aged 32 years. At rest in St Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial, Thiaucourt, France. He is also commemorated on a family memorial.

Alexander McCullough. Captain Mercantile Marine Resided with his wife Agnes, nee Gault at 56 Cliftonville Park Avenue. Died at his home 15 April 1919 aged 54 years. From heart and kidney disease which he had for 4 years and influenza for 4 days
