Rupert Meyricke
Major Meyricke did not die of illness in Malta. Yes he was hospitalised with jaundice and an ulcerated leg, but he committed suicide by shooting himself on the day he was due to be repatriated to England on HS Soudan

I have asked the sender for some provenance to help us confirm that information.

Update

confirmation can be found at the National Archives, personal file WO 374/47518 and the personal and medical records and the Board of Inquiry findings therein.

Good morning Andy.

Those records can be seen on the CWGC. They are very useful when anomalies are found on the memorials. B, had a field day when the the Malta graves where checked.
