About a boy - 2002. British Comedy/Romance with uh guess who? Hugh Grant...

Actually enjoyable and relatable to an extent. Being a pathologic liar, in order to « bang » young, single mothers, while living off the inheritance of a dad who’s wrote and sang one song decades before? Sure, not the lifestyle many would abhor.

It’s good; particularly the part about the duck choking to death after having swallowed a big piece of bread. I don’t really need more to be entertained for a bit.

Now I think about it, there's a scene at the end where Zellweger sings on a rock song of the roof of the building. No idea if it's actually her or a stunt voice. WHoever it is - good voice.

The dude who did it in the movie is the actual artist and he reckons it's her singing.

I was expecting more from this movie. You need to put up with Spike Lee's prodigious hatred for whoever it is that he hates for much of this movie and that grows tiresome. He even interjects his hatred for Trump in it. Halfway through the 2.5 hour movie, I started to lose interest, but felt I had too much invested to stop watching. The cast was great and could have made this a much better movie with a different director.

'Inside Man'
with Clive Owen, Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster et.al.
A bank robbery-turned-siege becomes a mental game of chess between the robber, the police and the secretive bank owner.

One of the few movies I've watched more than once. The acting is great, the plot clever, the dialogue funny. There's not a boring minute there. Also, the director can't be given enough credit for how he gives this film a subliminal additional layer of realism; the protagonists in this movie talk like normal people, they use filler words, they have to clear their throats… it all just feels right.

In short, a fun flick that's utterly recommendable. And goddamnit, Kim Director was hot in the noughties.

Hey Muck, I started watching it and I realized I had seen it before and forgotten. Hell, it's a 14 year old movie! But I watched it again and enjoyed it like the first time. Well crafted movie. I'm glad you mentioned it.

Crazy how time goes by, isn't it. Strangely enough, it's the movies that always remind me the most that I'm getting older.

I was almost shocked to see that Christopher Plummer is still alive.

'Triple Frontier'
with Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam et.al.
A PMC (Isaac) reunites with his veteran buddies to steal a drug lord's fortune. When their exfil plan goes south, their tenacity is tested hard.

This one was surprisingly good, and with an interesting focus: Most movies like this culminate with the heist, this one pretty much begins with it. The acting is good (heck, even Affleck does a decent job here), the action is good, the cinematography is splendid and there are some interesting human undertones and unsuspected twists. It's an adventure more than a thriller, and certainly well worth your time if you haven't watched it already.

I do suspect the director had to leave more material on the cutting room floor than intended, though.

You were right about this one. It was kinda strange to watch for me considering how Lee handles racial dynamics and political commentary so much better in 'Inside Man'.

That scene made me so happy… because normally Hollywood seems to think we can't root for the protagonists anymore if they get to keep their loot.

Like that moment where they all decide to give up their share to fund the tuition of their dead comrade's daughter? The two of us watching literally looked at each other and went: 'That's cute, but isn't even a fraction of 5 million more than enough to send her to university?' I get it they were having a nostalgia boner but come on. Real people would've kept at least some of the money.

Rewatched « The Rock » yesterday. Good as I remembered. Nicolas Cage was quite a thing then, Sean Connery? Well, he’s legendary but too old to still act these days, I believe.
