Brilliant film ...

Anna

Luc Besson film about a woman who's recruited into a shadowy government organisation to be an assassin after a crime spree goes wrong - it was entertaining but reallt odd because about thirty years ago I saw 'La Femme Nikita' which is a Luc Besson film about a woman who's recruited into a shadowy government organisation to be an assassin after a crime spree goes wrong.

I’ve watched the « big » movie many people and critics were talking about in 2019. Parasite

It’s a Korean film, the story is about two very different families from whatever South Korean city. A pretty wealthy and successful one and another one, dirt poor.

Pretty hard for me to give a spoiler free review. I sort of like Asian cinema generally speaking since their stories are quite twisted especially the dramas genre.

Watch for yourself if given the chance. 8/10 for me, the critics are particularly unanimous in giving this one a near perfect rating.
One of the Best cinema in 2019, I truly enjoyed it. 9/10 for me

OK, perhaps something is fundamentally wrong. 18% Rotten Tomatoes rating, 1-1.5 stars rating from critics... and I thoroughly enjoyed
Assassin's Creed movie.
1. I stopped giving a toss about movie critics ages ago. They're to me what obviously fake customer reviews on Amazon are. The vast majority of them are either pretentious pseudo-intellectual pricks who despise the idea of escapism, or they're social justice warriors lamenting the fact a movie like '1917' doesn't have a bisexual women of colour in the lead role. There's not even a pretence of objectivity left in that business.
2. Rotten Tomatoes has become a highly dubious source ever since its parent company was bought by Disney. A very astute bunch of people have caught them manipulating ratings many a time as of late. And that's not tinfoil hat territory. They have the maths to show for it.

BOPE Tropa De Elite ...
A great movie. Gotta admit though, I felt very depressed afterwards. Same with the sequel. It's no wonder Brazil voted for a freak like Bolsonaro and ousted the people who'd tolerated that frightening degree of corruption for far too long.

Out of nostalgic sentiments, I have decided to re-watch the « Naked Gun » saga (available on Netflix in these parts) for all the comedy and mindless fun scenes they were. Leslie Nielsen passed away about ten years ago and I remember to have watched again Airplane! then, again out of nostalgia.

« Fun scenes » is putting it mildly, it’s pretty hilarious throughout. I miss these kind of movies, nowadays comedies lack a bit of substance IMO. These days I’m not sure we can joke about these things from three decades ago.

John Wick : parabellum.

Dissapointed despite some elegant camera shooting.

It made me think of a porn movie that basically is a continous display of intense and unhinged sex scenes loosely held together by a very thin plot...Parabellum is just that except sex scenes are replaced with killings.

Couldn't agree more. The first movie was kinda cool, but part two and three were just excuses to shoot a couple of amazing action scenes. Nothing wrong with that, obviously, but they felt kinda pretentious for what the really were.

1917. Not one to see to lift your spirits, the premise seemed a bit odd to me, but from what I know of WW I fantastic attention to period detail. Overall 4/5 Stars.

1917. Very much enjoyed it, although I thought the premise a little soft: "If you don't deliver the message, 1,600 men will die, including your brother". Killing off 1,600 blokes was a slow day in WW1. Like Chaz and Rider said, you can't fault the attention to detail though. I'd go see it again just for the "I'm a poor wayfaring stranger" song. It's a beautiful scene.

Samurai Cop: In the annals of movies so bad they're good, Samurai Cop stands tall (maybe even above The Room). For hilarious action sequences, terrible dialogue, bizarre plotting and stilted acting, this movie takes the biscuit. I'm going to highly recommend here and await your scorn and insults for doing so!

Terminator: Dark Fate.
I had low expectations, but the movie went even lower. The screenwriter was a total prick - he killed John Connor, the one and only, just to make some dramatic content of his own with no value. The first half I had to wach as main characters two actresess, which are more sutable to play goofy teen roles at Disney Channel. It was like Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger came to the rescue this film from total disaster, instead for saving the world. But at least the combat scenes were good.

I caught Birds of Prey and Midway the other day. BoP was mindless bubble gum, an excuse to look at Margot Robbie for a couple of hours. Midway was ruined by Chinese investment money.

When I saw the preview at the movies, I noticed there was a strong emphasis on fancy 3d type explosions, and a large scope of notable and CGIable moments of history such as Pearl Harbor and the Doolittle raid. I was wondering if they managed to put D-day highlights inside the flick as well.

I decided early on I would not pay to see something that looked like a bowl of reheated soup. I love the original Midway.

The CGI wasn't that bad, in saying that I can easily forgive that sort of stuff. The sketchy dialogue, over explanations of stuff, I imagine designed to make translation in the Chinese market easier just totally buggers the movie for mine.
