During the Blitz in 1941, Civil Defence workers at the Gas Cleansing Centre in Wandsworth, London, were trained to assist those exposed to gas attacks. Wearing full protective suits, steel helmets, and gas masks, they guided casualties to remove contaminated clothing, which was placed in special bins for decontamination.
