A more famous gesture:

That’s nothing and pretty mild.

Had Macron gone to Birmingham, Alabama to strike a pose with some actual gangsta instead of these wanna be like those, he’d have gotten stabbed to death, stripped off his suit and robbed his wallet for a few hits on crack.

We’re in an odd situation, where about 65% of the country disapprove of the President yet he’s likely getting re-elected next year anyway.

He managed to destroy the more traditional parties i.e, the Socialists which have spawned Presidents like Mitterand and Hollande (sigh) and the Républicains, with figures like Chirac and Sarkozy (double sigh). Forty years of about the same, with some subtle differences.

Macron (almost) came out of nowhere in late 2016 even though he was in Hollande’s government but the general public barely heard of him. Considering Hollande’s unpopularity he didn’t even seek a second tenure and Macron started his own party. The rest of you know the rest of the story. Not that bad a start, France wins the World Cup in Russia, he’s inviting Trump to Bastilles day parade and have dinner up the Tour Eiffel.

So far so good, then the “carbon tax” and the yellow jackets movement which left him and his administration a big scar which he tried to heal for many months to this day.

Macron like the rest of us do watch and follow the news and the oddity of his high chance of being re-elected make me sure he’s going to run again.

Marine Le Pen is certainly suffering the Zemmour momentum, in recent polls anyway, because many of her voters and base think she polished and tamed her party a bit too much, and it’s not working.

A pretty divided country, but leaning more right wing by the day. All things considered, Zemmour, Le Pen and Bertrand would gather almost half of the votes, the rest is bread crumbs for the greens and socialists, at least a good thing. Macron is pretty opportunistic so he’ll find the right words (no pun intended) to appease and try to gain some right wingers votes too.
Bertrand is (surprinsingly to me) seemingly already dead before even taking the run
Zemmour, well, dunno. Dunno if it is a temporary trend or if he can make it really to a real run
What is sure is he is eating Lepen votes
Barnier may come as a surprise token
Otherwise, i don't see anybody than Macron again. Even if a lot of voters may go against him, they are divided between the abstentionists, the small parties (LFI etc) and the fact that he has recovered most of the centrist pool

Xavier Bertrand would have been my pick and horse for the Presidency, as said before. It’s not looking too good for him many months prior to the election.

Let’s keep in mind that Macron in polls in November 2016 was at about 7-8% and very unlikely going to the second round of the show.

(Almost) anything is possible. I agree though that the Zemmour thing might just be a temporary trend and he’ll eventually sink in polls and fail. Impossible to tell.

I don´t think he will go down...but he has a glass ceiling like Marine le Pen, higher than hers maybe, but thicker because le Pen also does a lot of talk also outside of immigration issues such as unemployment, buying power...

Isn't Hidalgo also running?

I think most of us forgot she is. Rarely have I seen a candidate with so poor communication skills and low energy. Not that I would have voted for her, but a healthy democracy needs alternatives and she just shut down the door of the center/middle left to any hope.

She called Eric Zemmour a clown and a buffoonish character. Surely… she stands at about 4% in latest poll. Will see in April who’s the real « clown ».

For the record and our Anglo audience, she’s the (awful) mayor of Paris.

I like the #saccageparis hashtag.

The funniest video is her in front of the automatic ticket dispenser at the train station ranting about these things hurt the fabric of the society...The text is so poor, the tone so whiny...

What? She's campaigning to have humans selling tickets? What next, shoe shine boys? Telegrams delivered by kids?

Yeah it’s pathetic. News flash : vending machines have replaced humans to sell suburban train and metros tickets. Welcome to 2021, girl!
