Protests are ongoing in the city of Lagos against police brutality and some protesters have reportedly been killed. Many more wounded. Interesting take on democracy from the growing African power...
Witnesses say several died when soldiers opened fire in Lagos but the army calls it "fake news".

Well, I studied with Nigerians and I have much to do with them. Nigeria is basically an artificial country with about 210 million people speaking 450+ languages. They have no history of being together before the British colonial rule. People in the South/South East (Igbos and Ikwerres) have the oil, the ones in South West (Yorubas) don't fare bad due to living in the region around the former capital (Lagos), while the ones in the North (Hausas and Fulanis) have fvckall.
Many tribes cannot stand the other ones and there's a big animisity between some of them.
The government founded the capital city (Abuja) in the middle of nowhere, carving it out of a Muslim state in the North. They just wanted to downgrade the role of Lagos, that is not in the centre of the country, but it did not help much in order to integrate different tribes.
Igbos still remember the civil war in Biafra and the genocide on them.
If you talk to a random Nigerian, being Igbos, Yorubas, etc. will always be more important than being Nigerian. They unite when their football team plays a tournament, but people from the South and North don't get on well apart from such rare occasions. Fulanis and Igbos are pretty hostile towards each others.
Apart from the terrorist group from North East (Borno state and other sh1tholes), there's a group called Niger Delta Avengers in the South. They are pissed off at the central government for not paying them much enough for extracting the oil from their land. These people live in contaminated areas, their soil is polluted and they don't benefit enough from the fact that they have to share their oil with everybody.
Nothing is going to change any soon, as Nigeria is corrupt to the brim.
However, they are amazing at one particular thing: they sponsor their population to get educated in Western countries and pay billions for these big fvckoff overseas student fees.
