Politics BLM protests across the US

On the night of Feb. 18 to 19 – the Night of Wrath, as it became known in Lviv – tensions erupted. Police stations and the Interior Ministry building were set on fire. Some police removed weapons from the stations before they were overrun, said Porodko; others were looted. His team sent to Kiev three mini-buses loaded with armored vests, helmets and shields for the protesters.

Other things in common were rampant statue-phobia and mob behavior.

Hey stupido, do you think you’re in Mogadishu? You’re in jail now.

I'm puzzled by the extent of the protests even outside the US and the social pressure (especially on celebrities) to participate. Kind of reminds me of reports from North Korea where not mourning the death of the departed Dear Leader could land a person a lengthy stay in a concentration camp.

And no, for heaven's sake, I'm obviously not comparing George Floyd to Kim Jong-Il. But restricted speech is bad enough; compelled speech is a different animal altogether.

Besides, I don't understand the concept.

No sane person endorses racism or thinks the acts of violence that led to Floyd's death were not reprehensible. That's a matter of course. And as such, it needs no emphasising. You don't have to prove to anyone what you're thinking about it; it's incumbent on those who would stoop to rely on personal attacks to prove you're of a different opinion.

Nor is brandishing those convictions in public brave, to be honest. Voicing an opinion embraced by everyone doesn't require bravery.

And if not going haywire over Floyd's death's is tantamount to somehow perpetuating racism, how come that logic is never held e.g. against Muslims and their silence over Islamic terrorism? If you can't be arsed to abide by your own standards, why should I.

So it's emerged that in the future movies without "diversity" can't be nominated for an Oscar anymore. Which would be bad enough for original screenplays, but of course this includes historical topics as well. Prepare to see more African-Americans cast as 15th Century European royals and so forth.

Jesus.

I am aware of a recent David Copperfield movie in which the protagonist is black.

See this is one example of where the cops shouldnt be any part of, no crime was broken but an ordinance and now that simple act will probably do wonders about the POV of cops in the area...
