I read that this famous teenage girl was killed in the revolt.

I read that this famous teenage girl was killed in the revolt.

Her name was Erika Kornelia Szeles and she was born in 1941.
She became a nurse in one of the sub-units. On November 8, in the center of Budapest, the resistance group she was with was shot at. When her friend was injured, she decided to run up to him to help him. Despite the fact that she had red cross markings, she was shot and died. She was 15 years old.
She was buried at the Kerepesi Cemetery in Budapest.

Wonder how many of the people in those pics survived being "reeducated". RIP.

Amazing how successful the revolt was, even without any outside help. The people had essentially won.
It took the full weight of the Soviet Union to finally crush it,

On Jan. 1, 1957, the first ship carrying refugees from the Hungarian Revolution arrived at BAT Pier 4 with 1,747 passengers aboard. More than 9,000 Hungarian refugees would pass through Brooklyn Army Terminal, part of the 38,000 that resettled in the US.
