USS Forrestal under construction.
his image shows SS United States at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in 1955. The shipyard built and maintained the SS United States during her service period, but she was a bit outside their normal purview. NNSY's bread and butter, then and now, were contracts to build ships for the U.S. Navy. Here the United States is shown along with an unidentified naval supply ship and the USS Forrestal, still under construction.
