About the first photo. Yes, indeed, it looks like a photo from a newspaper. As far as I can understand, war reporters in all countries love footage with a long line of military equipment and soldiers nearby.

A soviet sniper and his spotter in Afghanistan, 1984-85.
I found this same photo in an article on images of the war. It mainly contained pictures taken by photographers from TASS, and many Western journalists. The epigraph of this particular image said that the date was April 1988; the author was Alexander Sekretarev.
No intention to argue, just comparing notes...

These two images were taken by Georgy Nadezhdin during a visit to Shindand air base on 2 February 1980. The MiG-17Fs belong to the 335th Regiment.

An An-12BP of the falling DRA's government that escaped from an attack on Kabul airport to the USSR, during the night of 16-17 February 1993. While approaching Termez AB in Uzbekistan, the plane ran out of fuel and the pilot performed a belly-landing near the airfield. There were eight crew members and 109 passengers on board.
