Nui Dat, Vietnam. 1966. Gunners of 101st Field Battery, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA), carry a 105mm pack howitzer to the Australian Task Force (ATF) base after it has been brought back on a Chinook helicopter at the end of a field operation.

Nui Dat, Vietnam. c. 1966. Inside one of the tents of 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) old 105mm ammunition boxes have been improvised as desks and storage. Note the tape recorder player and the full magazine for a self-loading rifle (SLR). The tent is surrounded by sandbags which add extra protection. Nui Dat, Vietnam. c. 1967. An Iroquois (Huey) helicopter parked on the right at the 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) base camp pad is one of No. 9 Squadron RAAF helicopters. The Sioux helicopter on the right is from 161 Independent Reconnaissance Flight. Both helicopters flew in to the camp daily to support 6RAR, providing operational re-supply, troop movement, casualty evacuation and many other tasks. There are water cans lined up beside the Huey probably waiting for loading to re-supply the battalion out on an operation. As US Army Iroquois helicopters swoop in to pick up members of 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), from the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) Base, Private Doug Poole of Athol Park, SA, maintains radio contact with the pilots. The troops were being lifted south of the Task Force Base to the Long Hai Hills, where Operation Pinnaroo was underway.

'Pathfinder' Corporal Ivan Sinclair of Dorrigo, NSW, directs the landing of Iroquois helicopters onto the Luscombe airfield at the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base. The choppers were about to lift 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) troops into the Long Hai Hills to the south for the beginning of Operation Pinnaroo.
