PACIFIC OCEAN (Jan. 28, 2021) An F-35C Lightning II from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 147 lands on the flight deck of Nimitz-class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). ATLANTIC OCEAN (Feb. 21, 2021) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher (DDG 57) is underway alongside the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) during a fueling-at-sea, Feb. 21, 2021. Mitscher is operating in the Atlantic Ocean in support of operations to maintain maritime stability and security in order to ensure access, deter aggression and defend U.S., allied and partner interests. Fire, our worst fear. Engineering failures too. Had a main steam line burst in #1 fireroom, flooding the fireroom and the First class mess on the 2nd deck with 800 degree 600 lb steam. A few guys burned, but no one lost their life. Essex, 1962.
