On the 3rd of February in 1943, 416 squadron, RCAF, had a disastrous day - four pilots were shot down, by FW190s of JG26, though only one lost his life, F/O Robert Jack 'Paddy' Turp...
'Paddy' was brought up labouring on his family's farm in King, Ontario, and had never even flown in an aircraft prior to enlisting in the RCAF, in 1940. On his enlistment paperwork, he wrote that he intended to study voice after completing his war service. He wanted to become a concert baritone singer - an aspiration he never fulfilled.

The Vickers Medium Tanks, Mks I & 2 were the principal inter-war tanks of the British Army.
Here, a column of Mk IIs make their way across Salisbury Plain during pre-war exercises.
The tank in the foreground is in fact a Mk II* CS...the close support version of the tank which was armed with a 3.7" howitzer in place of the 47mm QF 3 pounder.
Such tanks were primarily intended to lay down smoke cover.
The circular tactical mark indicates that these are tanks of "C" Sqaudron.

These BAMFs were from 2/5 Infantry Battalion, one of only two units in the 2nd AIF to have fought all three of our enemies during the war.
