Details re his father -
Quartermaster Sergeant William James LILLEY. Born in 1861 Westminster, Middlesex to John Frederick Lilley. He was married twice. He was married on the 23rd September 1866 at Aldershot parish church to Miss Harriet Perrigo aged 26 and lived in the parish of St Martin, Hereford. William James was aged 25, Staff Sergeant, Royal Engineers and lived at Aldershot. His father John Frederick Lilley was a soldier. His wife died on a date unknown and he remarried on the 1st January 1921 at Battersea Parish Church. He was then aged 29 and a widower, occupation, clerk, living in the parish of St Mary, Battersea. His wife was called Phoebe Sarah Oram, nee Pearmain, aged 56, widow and she lived in the parish of St Peter, Battersea, his father was deceased.
In 1881 he was boarding at 16 Eign Road, Hereford, the home of James and Sarah Moore, ordnance surveyor. He was a sapper aged 20 serving with the Royal Engineers. 1891 he was a Company Sergeant Major aged 30 living at 15 Norman Road, Portsea, Hampshire with his wife Harriet who was born at Tenbury, Worcestershire and their son Frederick Francis Perrigo Lilley aged 3, born in Hong Kong.
